Japan audiences are less than a week from the premiere of Gachi Boshi helmer Kan Eguchi’s new film, The Fable, and the campaign has been pretty amply paced thusfar since rolling out its initial teasers last December. Nippon TV launched sales in Hong Kong earlier this year, based on Katsuhisa Minami’s Weekly Young Magazine publication since 2014 and features Samurai’s Promise and Library Wars franchise star Junichi Okada. Your slightly offbeat neighbor might actually be an assassin on vacation. As his nickname implies, the Fable is an enigmatic assassin who terrorizes the underworld. The overworked assassin gets an order from his boss. “Live the life of a normal man for one year. Next month will see the first of a two-part endeavor from Toei Video with a cinematic premiere and subseqent live stage show event in the form of Gozen. The former, Gozen: The Sword of Pure Romance, now has an official trailer ahead of a July 5 release and is directed by Hidenori Ishida. GOZEN is a jidageki (period piece) dramas. The word “gozen” refers to a feudal game held in the presence of a Daimyo, described as a match “one must not lose”. As previously reported by Jorge Salas at Tokusatsu Network in January, the trailer comes following a cryptic announcement from producers Hideaki Tsukada and Takahito Omori, best known for their extensive works on the Kamen Rider and Super Sentai franchises. VORTEX: Catch The Teaser For Gan Jianyu’s Brooding New Crime Thriller

Gan Jianyu’s newest crime thriller, Vortex, offers a seething and brutal look into a tale of greed and honor. The footage alone speaks volumes for itself and currently serves as one of the crown jewels of Asian arthouse banner Fortissmo Films’ 2019 sales roster going into the new year after recently emerging from bankruptcy. There’s no real release date as of yet but I suspect at least a mid-summer or early Fall rollout given the timing of the teaser now running online. Vortex features The Thousand Faces Of Dunjia actor Da Peng in the role of Liu, a gambling addict whose debt troubles grow more complex when he finds a young girl in the trunk of an unregistered car he tries to sell after stealing. SHANGHAI FORTRESS: A Quartet Of Posters Showcase Earth Under Siege

Teng Hutao’s new action sci-fi epic, Shanghai Fortress, is finally poised for an August 9 release in China. Times Vision picked up sales rights a little over a week ago at Cannes with the firm showing optimism for its roster of titles, particularly for the new film based on Jiang Nan’s 2006 novel of the same name. Set in the future, the city of Shanghai China battles to defend itself against an ongoing attack by an alien force that has attacked and has laid siege to numerous cities around the globe in it’s quest to harvest a hidden energy only found on earth. Starring are Lu Han and actress Shu Qi with Gao Yixiang, Shi Liang, Wang Sen, Sun Jialing and Wang Gongliang rounding out the cast. I honestly don’t know what the appeal is in Mike Tyson as an actor apart from seeing him generate chuckles in The Hangover and its sequel, but he’s definitely found his calling overseas as he keeps getting cast in movies. It’s a little more than two months waiting for Takashi Yamazaki’s epic new World War 2 thriller, The Great War Of Archimedes. For now, slide this bit of footage in as your first official trailer hailing Gintama actor Masaki Suda as a genuis mathematician who launches his own investigation targeting a conspiracy regarding the construction of Japanese warships for the ongoing World War II. SKYFIRE: The First Official Poster For Simon West’s Hot New Thriller Reveals Cast

Director Simon West has been more than busy over in China, co-helming on one title and solo directing another – the latter, Skyfire, hailing from Meridian Entertainment and Base Media. The five year endeavor which wrapped late last year was written by Sidney King and stars Hannah Quinlivan (Skyscraper) as a young geologist who finds herself in a race against time to save her family from a volcanic island in the South China Sea on the brink of deadly eruption. Stunt professionals still don’t have an Oscar category, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get to celebrate themselves and Wei Junzi’s new documentary, Kung Fu Stuntmen: Never Say No is coming to iterate that point. This wouldn’t be the first stunt documentary and it certainly won’t be the last, while it’s also one for the Asian film crowd as the subjects here include legends like Yuen Woo-Ping, Jackie Chan, Tony Ching, Sammo Hung, JC Stunt veteran Mars, and many more. As Isaac Chamber at Far East Films reported last month, actor Andy Lau penned the calligraphy.

THE LEGEND HUNTERS: The Mojin Saga Continues With Its First Poster

The first official artwork for The Legend Hunters has arrived, directed by Li Yi Fan and Simon West. It’s the project formerly known as Mojin X – the big giveaway being it stars Celina Jade as reported last October. Also starring are Hanyu Zhang and Jiang Wu, following suit with the on-going Mojin franchise. Story, plot and release date are all unknown, so I’ll be sure to update as soon as possible on these. Florentine/Adkins Thriller, SEIZED, Lands Explosive New Poster Art

Action star Scott Adkins is running high on momentum this month following news on Strapped and Adrian Bol’s Legacy Of Lies. For this, we turn to the first poster for Seized, his recently-completed pairing with director Isaac Florentine and actor Mario Van Peebles. The film is now in post production, featuring Adkins as an ex-special forces agent on a trio of missions in order to save his son. Adkins will soon be seen this summer with the release of Jesse V.
