Netflix to Premiere New BAKI HANMA Anime This Fall

It was recently revealed by Weekly Shonen Champion magazine that streaming service Netflix will premiere the new Baki Hanma Anime this fall. The latest in the Baki the Grappler series, and sequel to recent Baki: Dai Raitaisai-hen, continue the story of the “strongest parent-child brawl in the history of the world” as referenced in the original manga. Additionally, Weekly Shonen Champion recently released a special website to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the manga in September. On this site, users can submit cosplay, videos, original art and manga to enter a fan art contest, closing August 31. The original Baki the Grappler (aka Grappler Baki) manga ran in Weekly Shonen Champion from 1991 to 1999. Edko Films is backing Cold War co-helmer Longman Leung’s new biopic, Anita, based on the life and times of the late Hong Kong film, television and music sensation Anita Mui, who sadly passed away in 2003. Premiering Out Of Competition at Cannes next week is The King helmer Han Jae-rim’s newest thriller, Emergency Declaration. The latest international teaser trailer is making the rounds from the reps at Showbox, with actors Song Kang-ho (Parasite) and Lee Byung-hun (Ashfall) top-billed to head the story of passengers aboard a plane forced to declare an emergency when an unprecedented terror occurs in flight. That’s pretty much it for the logline too, and the rest is up to what you can gather from the footage being offered, on top of the poster which you can view below. There’s unrest, upheaval and the constant threat of imminent danger that lends a lot to pick apart here. Acquisition news remains pending so don’t wait up too long, but keep this one on radar for sure.

It’s been a while since this title began streaming the trailer but I figure it won’t hurt to pick it up… It’s Tanya Wexler’s new action comedy, Jolt, in which actress Kate Beckinsale plays a woman whose treatment for a violent neurological disorder becomes the ultimate gauge for own her sheer will when she sets out to avenge the murder of her new boyfriend. Amazon Prime is releasing the film on July 23, with a cast that also lists Jai Courtney, Stanley Tucci and more. The streamer’s announcement was a little too in-depth so I’m using my own wording here but the trailer sells the goods.

Instant Swamp and It’s Me, It’s Me director Satoshi Miki’s got a hell of a tease for you all out there lovin’ your monster moviefare and whatnot. There’s yet to be an English title but feel free to bookmark Daikaijyu no Atoshimatsu going forward as it stays the course for a 2022 release starring Ryosuke Yamada (Fullmetal Alchemist) and Tao Tsuchiya (Rurouni Kenshin saga). A co-prod between Shochiku and Toei, both actors play ex-fiancees to one-another – specialists in their field who are assigned to the charge of a monster that attacks Japan and suddenly dies, only to ensue the looming threat of the country’s collapse stemming from a potential gas explosion from where the monster’s carcass lays. The bumbling cop-turned-gangster shenanigans are back for one last hoorah with word that celebrated auteur Takashi Miike, currently on the road with trailers for his upcoming fantasy sequel The Great Yokai War: Guardians, just wrapped his curtain closure for the screen-adapted The Mole Song trilogy with The Mole Song: Final. Actor Toma Ikuta reprises his lead role based on Noboru Takahashi’s onward 2005 manga series, with a screenplay by celebrated scribe Kankuro Kudo. As reported by Variety‘s Mark Schilling, the new film sees our haphazard hero, Reiji (Ikuta Toma) sent on an infiltration mission via luxury cruise ship to stop a billion dollar drug shipment, a mission that ultimately pits him against his strongest enemy yet. The first short teaser is online which you can view above as the campaign begins ahead of the film’s release in Japan on November 19 from Toho.
