LEGEND OF DEIFICATION: ‘Ne Zha’ Studio Developing Fengshen Myth-Based Epic

Jiao Zi’s animated summer blockbuster, Ne Zha, was a welcome feat for moviegoers. With a trilogy in the works on that end, a new team is getting behind another offering on the animated front with Legend Of Deification, another tale centric to the Fengshen Bang universe based on Chinese mythology teased at the end of Ne Zha. Cheng Teng and Li Wei are directing the animated follow-up spectacle with a new production team of their own. The story is based on Jiang Ziya who, on orders from the gods, gathered an army of people with special powers to overthrow the Shang kingdom, with Ne Zha serving as one of his generals. The new film will focus on Jiang Ziya in his own journey of self-rediscovery following the overthrow of the Shang Kingdom. Thai Thriller NECROMANCER Teaser: Dukes Up In A Black Magic Battle Arena!

Sahamongkol’s own Sia Jiang may not be putting out the popular action-packed, death-defying and stunt-loaded thrillers that drew fans in like bees to honey back in his Ong Bak and Chocolate heyday. Still, he’s kept himself notably busy since then and his latest endeavor, Necromancer, underscores this notion. This one brings aboard director Piyapan Choopetch (Mu Ex 1 and 2, Hashima Project), whose return here presents this project as maybe something of a reimagined effort from his 2005 film if my translations are correct. It’s interesting that I’m just off of Takashi Miike’s First Love and now the re-emergence of director Johnnie To (Don’t Go Breaking My Heart films, Mad Detective, Three) is back and bringing some of those same True Romance feels with his latest film, Chasing Dream. Actor Jacky Heung makes his latest lead outing having come a long way since his acting debut in Jet Li’s inspired martial arts biopic, Fearless. THE PROTECT Teaser: Mum Jokmok Returns To Do What He Does Best!

It’s been a long time since Thai actor and comedian Mum Jokmok was a name among fans of the likes of his shared work with action heavy hitters Tony Jaa and Jeeja Yanin. Jokmok’s work precedes him amply with titles like Ong Bak, Tom Yum Goong, The Bodguard and The Kick among others and now he’s back with another rouser heading this November titled The Protect. That’s it. That’s about all there is to know apart from its idiomatic translation, Broken Bodyguard, and I’m while I’m not about to let Google Translate butcher any particular cast/crew, take what you will from the first teaser above seeing as it pretty much speaks for itself.

It’ll be a month before moviegoers in South Korea get to dig into upcoming war thriller, The Battle Of Jangsari. Until then, we have our first teaser for the new September thriller directed by Kwak Kyung-taek and Kim Tae-hun. Based on a true story of Jangsari Landing Operation, 772 student soldiers – whose average age was 17 and received 2-weeks of boot camp training – were tossed into Korean War efforts in order to pave the way for Incheon Landing Operation, which turned the tide of war. SHINee member Choi Min-ho stars along with Kim Myung-min, Kim Sung-cheol anf Kim In-kwon with Megan Fox and George Eads also starring. Yes, Takashi Miike is back and the buzz he’s earned since premiering his new action thriller at Cannes and Neuchâtel this year with First Love all but suggests this. It’s been quite the while since director Joseph Kosinski took to the helm with twice the Tom Cruise for futuristic sci-fi, Oblivion. They’re back together now and with San Diego Comic Con in full steam, the official teaser for Top Gun: Maverick is now here. The plot is largely a mystery though the general knowledge is that the iconic role of Maverick – played by Cruise since the 1986 film – will be an instructor in a technologically advanced world.
