Having since enjoyed a local theatrical run in China that gave it top-billing for two weeks at the tail end of 2020, Two Thumbs Up helmer Lau Ho-Leung’s new sequel-bound sophomore work, Caught In Time, now hinges its stateside efforts in part on China Lion Film. Written by Lau and co-writer Liang Hong, the film is based remarkably on the true story of an elusive and deadly criminal in the 1990s, played by actor Daniel Wu (Tomb Raider, AMC’s Into The Badlands).
Based on real life events from the 1990s, a ruthless gang manages a number of high level, high risk and high reward heists, meticulously planned out and executed over nearly a decade. When a police detective thinks he’s figured out their pattern, the head of the gang (Daniel Wu) starts to openly taunt him, resulting in a race to the ultimate showdown between the cops and robbers.
Wu is joined by actors Wang Qianyuan, Michelle Wai, Nina Paw and Jessie Li. Audiences in Hong Kong currently await the film’s June 24 release from Emperor Motion Pictures, while moviegoers in United States may now stream the new crime thriller on-Demand via FandangoNOW, iTunes and Rakuten VIKI from China Lion.
