Thus continuing to disprove any hint or nod to retirement, it appears that multifaceted action star Jackie Chan is looking to make another movie! According to Far East Films (via Tracking Board), Chan is boarding the new project titled The Old Soldier, reuniting with longstanding collaborator, fellow legendary action thespian and superstar Sammo Hung.
The news comes on the heels of Chan‘s most recently reported work on Skiptrace in Malaysia with director Renny Harlin and co-stars Fan Bingbing and Johnny Knoxville as of last month. The Old Soldier is said to commense production between now and next month in the Russian city of Vladivostok, with Hung in the director’s chair and Chan to star in a story of a thief on the run from international law enforcement agencies after stealing valuable jewelry. Liu Hua and Andy Lowe also star.
The film also marks another collaboration between Hung and Chan, both longstanding purveyors and symbols of dilligence in performance art since their Peking Opera days in the 1960’s. Their previous work together lists immensely from appearing in immortal classics like Enter The Dragon (1973) under iconic legend Bruce Lee, to working on Hong Kong classics like Wheels On Meals (1984) and Heart Of Dragon (1985), and Hollywood films like Mr. Nice Guy (1997), The Medallion (2003) and Around The World In 80 Days (2004) before collaboraring on Antony Szeto’s Jackie Chan Presents: Wushu (2008).
Fans overseas can expect to see Hung in action this November for the forthcoming release of director Roy Chow’s Wong Fei-Hung reimagining, Rise Of A Legend. Simultaneously, Chan followers will soon catch him back on the big screen for the upcoming releases of director Daniel Lee’s Dragon Blade, and Harlin’s Skiptrace sometime next year with a possible CZ12 follow-up also said to be in development, in addition to the production of South African thriller, Civilian.
