Fresh off of filming his forthcoming epic, Dragon Blade, action star Jackie Chan has since moved on to his personal labor of love as of late, the forthcoming production of the action comedy, Skiptrace. The actor is currently in Malaysia filming with The Legend Of Hercules helmer Renny Harlin who was announced to direct back in May following the departure of then-director Sam Fell.
With production now underway as of last month,
Deadline has the official word of another name change, this time for actor
Johnny Knoxville (The Last Stand, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) now up for the role previously announced for actor Sean William Scott. The report also emphasizes the film’s tone will be similar to director Martin Brest’s 1988 award-winning comedy,
Midnight Run.
Chan will portray Bennie Black, a detective forced into an unlikely partnership with Connor Watts (
Knoxville), a conman on the lam from the mob, as his only means to save his beautiful niece, Bai (
Fan), from the crosshairs of his decade-long fugitive nemesis, Victor Wong, and his crime syndicate.
Jay Longino wrote the script with later revisals by Brian Gatewood, Alessandro Tanaka, Geoff Moore, David Posmentier and BenDavid Grabinski and Rodney Rothman. Chan is producing with Esmond Ren, Damien Saccani and Charlie Coker. Locations for principal photography currently include Mongolia, Beijing, Hong Kong, Macau and Gaungxi.
Chan‘s Dragon Blade will bow in 2015 with more updates awaiting for his South African thriller, Civilian for Thunder Road.
