Death Is No Laughing Matter In The Kazakh Revenge Thriller, JOKER

It’s not often certain titles get circulated that awaken people to the current state of action movies around the globe. Such is the case with the Republic of Kazakhstan which seems as good a place to start as any with a few films on the way from that region, including known screenwriter Talgad Zhanibekov‘s directorial debut, Joker.

The film began its inception in 2010, born out of the desire to create an intellectual and spectacular film for a cult audience, with a story appearently written with a noir comic book appeal, much like what Alex Proyas and Robert Rodriguez did for The Crow and Sin City films, respectively. Two years later, filming began its 28 day schedule followed by a year of post production and VFX work leading up to its domestic theatrical premiere in September of last year.
Joker stars Vitalij Kischenko, Denis Lituyev and Yerbolat Toguzakov, and is produced by Kazakhfilm Studios and Birch Tree Films who are shopping the film at Cannes this month. Check out the original trailer from late last year and stay tuned for more info.
SYNOPSIS:

A man avenges his brother’s death with the help of an otherworldly monk who teaches him the skills to destroy his enemies.
