D.Y. Sao And USURP Proudly Present Their CALLING CARD
D.Y. Sao is an award-winning martial artist, actor, stuntman and fight choreographer. His first venture into martial arts and screen fighting came between the ages of seven and thirteen, inspired by classic Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies. When he got into college, he gained the opportunity of a lifetime at the Southern California Wushu Academy under Sifu Chris Ho.
His career path has since led him on a successful journey that continues to evolve, perfoming acting, stunt performing in such TV and film projects as Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight, Break, Champion Road: Arena, and even a small role in the 2003 film, Cradle 2 The Grave starring one of his childhood idols, Jet Li.
In light of just having released a new and spectacular action reel for 2013, D.Y. Sao also founded the brand new California-based action film production/stunt company, Usurp Productions. Members also include stunt professional and martial artist Ashley Harrison, Usurp co-owner, traceur and cinematographer Mark Alexander Poletti, J. Stiles and Sam Puefua. Their new shortfilm reel, Calling Card shows off fantastic feats of stuntwork, martial arts choreography and timing, which illustrates just what they specialize. In, as they move forward into the new year to kick off a new era in martial arts action cinema:
DESCRIPTION:
Usurp Productions was founded on the belief that contemporary action cinema can have both the grace & beauty of Hong Kong choreography with the brutal realism & dramatic gravity of Hollywood storytelling. Fans of the action genre no longer have to compromise. Our name “Usurp” stems from the fact that we are willing to challenge the status quo. We believe that the action genre deserves the same recognition and respect enjoyed by other genres and we earn this recognition and respect by making our action scenes innovative, surprising, harmonious, and easy to follow. Our action scenes are meant to come alive as a character its own right; organic to the scene, growing naturally from the story. In this way, the action genre can grow, adapt and evolve. We firmly believe the direction of modern action cinema should not be decided only by Hollywood nor Hong Kong, it should be up to both film-makers and fans brave enough to expand beyond the 1-2 combo cut edit or the over-reliance on wire-fu. With this conviction, our desire is to set a new standard for film-fighting and action and chart a new course for modern American movies. It is in this spirit that we work with independent filmmakers/producers/directors/actors/actresses who are willing to take that chance to be better. If you’re the type that gets an adrenaline rush just thinking about a great fight scene, then we welcome the opportunity to work with you and are excited for you to see what we come up with. If you feel the same way then join us!
