Production is wrapped as of Saturday for upcoming survival action thriller, Exiled: The Chosen Ones. Ranjeet S. Marwa is writing and directing the film which embarked on a consecutive twelve-day principal Birmingham, U.K shoot earlier thie month.
The indie thriller features Singaporean actor Sunny Pang (The Collector, Headshot, Kill-Fist) in the role of Hiro, a cold and calculating Yakuza hitman forced to compete for his life among a row of society’s worst criminals, in a deadly game devised by a corporate cabal overseeing a nefarious population control scheme, while the rich place their bets.
Pang was able to make the festival rounds over the last several years joining fellow cast and crew for North American premieres of Headshot (2016) at TIFF in Toronto, Canada, and The Night Comes For Us (2018) at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. His latest endeavor also rejoined him with fellow The Night Comes For Us and Buffalo Boys cohort, British-born Indonesian star Hannah Al-Rashid, both who now make their U.K. foray onto a film set for the first time.
Exiled: The Chosen Ones, of course, wasn’t initially the plan at the top of 2020, with Marwa initially developing and attempting to crowdfund action horror thriller, Blood Rush, which is currently still circling Zack Lee (The Raid 2, Headshot, The Night Comes For Us) to head the cast, depending on scheduling going into next year; With Blood Rush forced to scale back due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Marwa remained steadfast into the Spring and Summer, developing action thriller Traced, which he pitched at the virtual Cannes market this year next to Blood Rush, and shooting mini-doc, Covid-19: The Impact On Asian Cinema, with commentary from Pang.
Moreover, if the lead photo above is any hint on what genre fans can expect, this fortuitous production finally also grants Marwa his own stake in Southeast Asian action fandom, styled and homegrown in the U.K. to pair with the revivifying efforts of directors like Timo Tjahjanto (Headshot, The Night Comes For Us) and Gareth Huw Evans (The Raid 1 & 2, Gangs Of London).
The complete cast roster on Exiled: The Chosen Ones, includes Oka Antara (Foxtrot Six) and stunt performer and fight coordinator Nick Khan (The Asian Connection), with James Jaysen Bryhan, Jon Xue Zhang, Craig Edwards, Carl Wharton, Francois Mequer, Mark Sears, Ermar Alexander, Nisaro Karim, Ken Hough, David Blackwell, Jordan Hale, actor and hip-hop recording artist J. Cheung (a.k.a. Cryptik Soul), Warren Hicks, Dizzy Patel, Aman Toor, Tori, Philip Mawdsley, Leon Child, David Lamont, Zihier Rafiq, Vyde Yunis, Jeevan Marwa, and Triziell Guthrie.
The film now enters its post-production phase with Marwa overseeing possible additional shoots going into late November/mid-December. Marwa is producing the action thriller through his Rocket Sky High label, alongside Djonny Chen of Silent D Pictures (Daemon Mind, Jump).
