FIVE-A-DAY COUNTDOWN: Manikarnika, Swords & Sceptres, He Is Back, Petta, and Junglee
We’ve reached the second half of this month-long road as we countdown a list of 100 titles to keep track of in 2019. As per usual, here is another fiver:
Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi: Radha Krishna Jagalarmudi’s own take on the Queen of Jhansi tale is but one of two arriving in 2019, chronicling her reign on the battlefield in her campaign against British rule. Actress Kangana Ranault stars in the film which opens on January 25.
Swords & Sceptres: The Rani Of Jhansi: The 19th century heroine is also the center of debut director Swati Bhise’s own efforts at exalting her story on the big screen starring Devika Bhise. This one is reportedly expected to arrive in the summer. Date pending.

He Is Back: Famed martial artist and Bruce Lee lookalike Abbas Alizada (a.k.a. Abb Li) is looking to make 2019 his banner debuting as a villager who discovers the power within to fend off evil and possibly save the world. Chitah Yajnesh Shetty is directing for Showtime Sinema and SBM Pvt Ltd in association with Ninjoor Pictures.
Petta: I seldom keep up with Indian films but certain titles do catch on. Josh Hurtado brought this particular flick to his readers’ attention at Screen Anarchy from actor S.S. Rajinikanth and writer and director Karthik Subbaraj on his fifth feature film. No plot details are out just yet as of this write-up but it’s being slated for a release on January 11, 2019 from Sun Pictures.
Junglee: Vidyut Jammwal is taking things to a more family friendly tone whilst delivering the goods on the action front that he’s become known for since starring in Commando and its subsequent sequel, and indeed, there’s a third Commando coming. For now, Chuck Russell (The Mask, The Scorpion King) sets his new effort with Jammwal playing a vet visiting his father’s elephant farm, only to wage a one-man war with poachers. April 5, 2019
