Gareth Evans Drops Details On THE RAID 2: BERANDAL Trailer And THE RAID 3

Back in December of last year, filmmaker Gareth Evans hosted a brief Twitter Q&A where among a few other things, he acknowledged his composers, Fajar Yuskemal, Aria Prayogi and Joe Trapanese for their work on the score for his upcoming film, The Raid 2: Berandal, in addition to somewhat jokingly teasing a three-figure bodycount. Evans also addressed Film Combat Syndicate’s inquiry on how soon The Raid 3 would begin production, tweeting “I have a basic outline for part 3 – depends on how part 2 does, maybe 2017.”.

A new report from Dark Horizons now lists a series of tweets that partly expand just a tiny bit on what lies ahead for the third film according to Evans‘ most recent tweets. According to the report, Evans went on to state a description of the most recent international trailer that was unveiled last week on New Years’ Eve ahead of the film’s debut at the Sundance Film Festival this month. “The trailer is 2min 35sec and with the exception of one shot, it’s all new footage from the teaser. Only spoilers for Act 1 setup.” he writes. “Naturally, there’s a ton of stuff we have kept hidden from the trailer. About 4/5 action scenes don’t feature at all.” He continued by saying “I also wanted to put less emphasis on the brutality – this is the closest I could get to a green band version.”, and then added “The final shot is a tease – that fight I still get goosebumps watching it. Iko and Cecep gave everything they had for it.”.

Before expressing his excitement for the final fight between actors Iko Uwais and Cecep Arif Rahman, and including some scene deletion details, potential DVD/Blu-Ray bonus features and more, Evans also went on to quickly hint on what would happen for the aforementioned “basic outline” for the third film, tweeting “The Raid 2” takes place two hours after the first, “The Raid 3” would start two hours before “The Raid 2″ ends.”.

Not much else is known just yet about what the third film may entail aside from speculation. Rest assured though, with the amount of treatment and focus Evans has given this franchise since evolving the original Berandal concept into what would become 2011’s The Raid, fans can expect to be a lot more action and character driven storytelling featuring one of Indonesia’s most prominent rising stars, followed by an illustrious cast of young and seasoned performers alike.
Set for a same-day international and domestic release in North America and Indonesia on March 28, 2014, The Raid 2: Berandal stars Uwais and Rahman along with Arifin Putra, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo and Alex Abbad, with a special appearance by actor Yayan Ruhian, and a cameo by actor, The Raid co-star Joe Taslim who also be joining Evans for the upcoming production of The Night Comes For Us from Killers co-director Timo Tjahjanto.
SYNOPSIS:

Immediately following the events of the original, The Raid 2 follows Officer Rama as he is pressured to join an anticorruption task force in order to guarantee protection for his wife and child. His mission is to get close to a new mob boss, Bangun, by befriending his incarcerated son, Uco. Rama must hunt for information linking Bangun with corruption in the Jakarta police department while pursuing a dangerous and personal vendetta that threatens to consume him and bring his mission—and the organized crime syndicate—down around him.

Filmmaker Gareth Evans gloriously reunites with star Iko Uwais for this epic martial arts sequel. No longer confined to a single building, the fight spills across the streets of Jakarta—from prison yards to subway cars. Evans packs his film with enough jaw-dropping action and groan-inducing hits to rival a Hollywood studio’s entire summer slate. With Raid 2 and Park City at Midnight’s Killers, on which Evans serves as a producer, Indonesia establishes itself as a leader in genre filmmaking.
