JOHN WICK Co-Helmer David Leitch To Direct THE COLDEST CITY This November
Following the announcement in May, The Wrap reports that 87 Eleven Action Design’s own David Leitch will be helming the Charlize Theron actioner, The Coldest City for Focus Features. The news comes a year after Leitch‘s previous co-directorial effort with Chad Stahelski, John Wick, which gained notoriety and enough box-office success for sequel to commense shooting this Fall with Leitch executive producing.
Based on a script by Kurt Johnstad, the film follows the narrative inspired by author Antony Johnston’s 2012 Oni Press graphic novel publication in which a superspy forced into action to retrieve a list in order to protect the intel community when the MI6 agent smuggling it to the West is killed just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Theron, not too far off from her commanding performance in the Spring blockbuster success, Mad Max: Fury Road, is starring and is set to produce with producers from Denver And Delilah Productions, Closed On Mondays Entertainment and Sierra/Affinity, along with 87Eleven whose founders, Leitch and Stahelski, grew their gym into a staple for Hollywood stunt training and fight choreography for actors performing in major blockbusters; Leitch’s own extensive credits include Ninja Assassin, The Mechanic, Speed Racer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Hitman: Agent 47 to name a few.
The Coldest City begins filming in Budapest on November 16 before heading out to Berlin. Other projects Leitch and Stahelski are tied to include Cowboy.Ninja.Viking. for Universal, and various Valiant Comic’s properties for Sony’s Harbinger Wars movieverse.
