FANTASIA XXVI: SADAKO DX, COUPEZ!, DETECTIVES VS. SLEUTHS And So, SO Much More In The Third Wave Of Titles For The Festival!

It’s been a very weird day for writing on my end, as I reported earlier today that award-winning fight choreographer J.J. Perry would be directing the fight scenes for the upcoming production of director Stephen Fung’s Kickboxer remake. The update came in a recent interview hosted at The Action Elite with the film’s lead actor, martial artist and stuntman Alain Moussi.

Just minutes after I shared the article on my Facebook page, I was immediately contacted by a stuntman in my friend list who has recently worked with Perry that he would not be directing the action for the new film. So, ultimately I unpublished the article and contacted Perry myself right away to apologize for the confusion and he indicated he was alright by it before also informing me that seasoned martial artist, stunt professional and fight choreographer Larnell Stovall would be working on the film’s principle fight scenes instead, insisting that the film is “in good hands”.

Stovall confirmed this moments later, and if you are not aware of who he is, it’s likely you’ve been living under a rock. He’s done some amazing work as well in the world of film and martial arts stunt coordination with credits like the first and second season of Mortal Kombat Legacy, Bunraku (2010), Never Back Down 2 (2011), Dragon Eyes (2012), Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning (2012) and the current production of Max Steel. His more prolific work can be seen especially in director Isaac Florentine’s electrifying MMA prison actioner, Undisputed 3: Redemption (2010), the upcoming home release of The Raid 2, and in the recently unveiled teaser trailer for the new home invasion thriller, No Good Deed starring Idris Elba, which has a trailer you can check out just below Stovall‘s most recent reel at the bottom of the page.

On another note, it does sort of make sense that Perry would pass it on to Stovall. Both are two of the most busiest stunt professionals in their field, but I‘m glad that the project landed in Stovall‘s lap. He’s a terrific fight choreographer and more than well-suited to direct the fight action for a film of this kind, so I’m pretty sure action fans won’t be disappointed in the very list. Plus, this is probably news to Moussi as well, so I hope he’s excited as I am.

Further details await for Kickboxer ahead of its shooting schedule set for this Fall, with Moussi joined by actors Georges St. Pierre and Dave Batista. Stay tuned for more info!
