Things are already shaping up for the current production of the new sequel, Kickboxer: Retaliation which still awaits a release date. As of this week, we now have news from THR that adds soccer star Ronaldinho to the roster of talented athletes to the film’s narrative which returns martial artist and actor, star Alain Moussi.
Martial artist and director Dimitri Logothetis is directing with Moussi now forced to fight in a prison setting in Thailand where he will take on an array of challenges, including Ip Man 3 co-star Mike Tyson, UFC femme fatale Paige VanZant and Game Of Thrones co-star Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. Ronaldinho will play Ronaldo, a fellow inmate who helps Moussi’s character, Kurt Sloane, improve his deadly kicks.
Logothetis produced the initial film, Kickboxer: Vengeance, releasing this Fall from director John Stockwell and rebooting the original 1989 tournament thriller with its original star, Jean-Claude Van Damme playing mentor to Moussi’s Sloane. The film also stars Gina Carano, Dave Bautista and the late Darren Shahlavi preceding Kickboxer: Retaliation and a third film in tow thereafter.
