LEAGUE OF LEGENDS: A New Chinese Drama Adaptation Is Reportedly In The Works From Director Zhang Yimou
A quick run through the last few days of online blurbage may find you stumbling upon word of a new live-action drama in the works from production outfit YouHug Media, and acclaimed auteur, Zhang Yimou. The project in question is reportedly a take on the popular multiplayer online game “League Of Legends”, which hails from Riot Games and has been around since 2009.
A partial description of the game lays out “League Of Legends” as “a team-based strategy game where two teams of five powerful champions face off to destroy the other’s base.” Dexerto‘s Jeremy Gan cites a viral tweet featuring Zhang at a press conference confirming his involvement, along with details about the 40×45 series which reportedly centers on a character named Bai Yang, who gets “soul swapped” with Ma Da, an e-sports star he idolizes. The show is also set to be targeting Chinese audiences so there’s no word yet on its availability or trajectory outside of the mainland.
Yimou is known for his outstanding accolades as the multi-award-winning director of films like Raise The Red Lantern, Hero, House Of Flying Daggers, Curse Of The Golden Flower, Shadow, Cliff Walkers, One Second and his most recent release, Full River Red. A sequel to Cliff Walkers was announced last Spring by Emperor Motion Pictures.
The news on this series is developing and I will continue onward from this article if any new updates are provided via trades.
