It’s high-time for everyone stateside who hasn’t yet torrented a copy of Ip Man 3 spin-off, Well Go USA’s Master Z: Ip Man Legacy ahead of its U.S. release on April 12. Enter a cadre of some of the biggest names in kung fu cinema of late with none other than Max Zhang making his next stride with the role of disgraced wing chun master Cheung Tin-Chi following his consequential battle with Donnie Yen’s title character in the previous film.
Legendary action director Yuen Wo Ping draws on a stellar cast (Michelle Yeoh, Dave Bautista, Tony Jaa, and Max Zhang) to create a hard-hitting martial arts blast worthy of its place in the celebrated IP MAN universe. Following his defeat by Master Ip, Cheung Tin Chi (Zhang), tries to make a life with his young son in Hong Kong, waiting tables at a bar that caters to expats. But it’s not long before the mix of foreigners, money, and triad leaders draw him once again to the fight.
Yuen Woo-Ping takes to task once again directing and with this just being the latest of a bunch of Max Zhang titles that landed under the Well Go banner in the last few years. Master Z is the first, so let’s lend our ticket money to this one an keep the growth going!
