I have not been able to stay in tune with the tokusatsu community for a long time. But back in the 1990’s and onward, when I was much younger, I was a Power Rangers fan, and a regular viewer probably up until high school when priorities started coming first.
Fast forward to 2013, and the Power Rangers show is still going strong in one form or another, with some former cast members making oft appearances at Comic-Cons and martial arts seminars in America and everywhere in the world. One of those people happens to be Mike Chat from Power Rangers: Light Speed Rescue. Some may even know him either as the “Wizard” from the pseudo-reality TV show WMAC Masters, actor Paolo Montalban’s stunt double in Mortal Kombat: Conquest, or most namely, the founder and pioneer of XMA, or Xtreme Martial Arts, a brand of training that combines fluid martial arts performance with experimental and dynamic techniques to amalgamate what many people call “tricking”.
Mike was recently featured at Premier Martial Arts in Leeds during his European tour with the UK-based stage and film martial arts stunt team, SG Action, where he talks about his tour, XMA, and the message behind his brand.
