Netflix Confirms SQUID GAME Season Two Is On The Way
Squid Game director, writer and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed a second season is on the way for the hit series, according to a statement posted in a graphic via Netflix which reads the following:

It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.

Originally titled “Round Six”, Squid Game was long in development before launching last Fall on Netflix and catapulting to major success at home and abroad. The show, starring Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Jung HoYeon, Wi Ha-joon, Anupam Tripathi, O Yeong-su, and Gong Yoo, centers on a divorced father and indebuted gambler who gets embroiled in a deadly game of survival among nearly 500 contestants with a chance to win a pool of more than ₩45 billion won.
The series garnered postive reviews and made waves in the awards circuit. Among 44 categories between twenty award ceremonies, the show won eighteen awards, including Best Director at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards, Best Male Performance in a New Scripted Series at the Independent Spirit Awards for Lee Jung-jae, Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series along with Outstanding Performances awards for both Lee Jung-jae and Jung HoYeon at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Bingeworthy Show of the Year at the People’s Choice Awards.
Hwang is also in development with a new feature project titled K.O. Club as of April. Lee, who is signed in the U.S. with CAA as of Februrary, just made waves with the Out Of Competition premiere at Cannes for his feature directing debut, Hunt, in which he stars along with Jung Woo-sung. Park, who also stars in Kim Do-hun’s OCN series, “Chimera”, as well as Na Hyeon’s Yaksha: Ruthless Operations, will also be seen in Kim Hong-sun’s Korean series adaptation, “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”, when it airs on Netflix from June 24.
