Despite all current hopes for a third installment to the Sherlock Holmes franchise, instead, director Guy Ritchie will instead be working under Warner Bros. on the forthcoming production of a new six-film saga for King Arthur. The initial report came back in April, just a decade after director Antoine Fuqua released his own cinematic take on the legendary British king back in 2004 with actor Clive Owen in the lead.
An attempted reboot from Warner Bros. went through several transitions starting in 2010 with different actors, screenwriters and directors ever since. Four years later with
Ritchie set to direct from a script by
Awake (2007) scribe Joby Harold and producers Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell attached,
Deadline brings the official first casting news for actor
Charlie Hunnam in the title role.
Hunnam‘s casting comes on the heels of a possible return for Legendary Pictures’ April 7, 2017 for director Guillermo del Toro’s Jaeger/Kaiju war sequel,
Pacific Rim 2, following an
awesome announcement back in June. The news also arrived just in time as the seventh and final season of the FX original series,
Sons Of Anarchy debuted its latest trailer for its start date on
September 9.
