PLAN B: Reel Deal Action’s German Martial Arts Comedy Lands English-Language Remake At Amazon Studios

German martial arts action comedy, Plan B: Scheiss Auf Plan A, is getting an English language remake at Amazon Studios, with screenwriter Lucas Carter tapped to pen the script. What’s more is that Braden Aftergood and Sylvester Stallone are producing the film with Can Aydin executive producing.
Directed by Ufuk Genc and Michael Popescu, the original film was an independent production which thankfully found its way to a theatrical release in Germany through 20th Century Fox in 2017. The film was a feature-length first for Aydin and his co-stars, all co-founding members of martial arts action stunt and film unit, Reel Deal Action, including Phong Giang and Yoon Cha-lee. The trio also appeared together in James Mark’s 2018 actioner, On The Ropes.
Penned by Rafael Alberto Garciolo and also starring actor and dancer Eugene Boateng, Plan B: Scheiss Auf Plan A centered on a trio of aspiring action stars and their manager who stumble onto a crime already in progress thinking they’ve arrived at an audition. One of their own is soon taken hostage with the remaining three sent on a whirlwind adventure to retrieve four coordinates to locate the contents of a safe hidden somewhere in Berlin, or their friend dies. The film also stars Laurent Daniels, Julia Dietze, Gedeon Burkhard and Aristote Luis, with appearances by industry stunt stalwarts, actors Heidi Moneymaker, Mike Moeller and Lorenz Hideyoshi.
Matt Grobar’s Deadline exclusive on Thursday notes the premise for Carter’s screenplay for the film, now titled Plan B, stating the film “will follow three stunt performers who accidentally disrupt a crime in progress, then being forced to use their ‘pretend’ action skills in the commission of a very real crime.”
The original film has released disc and digital in Germany and other parts of the world, but it’s never had a decent release in North America, so it’s pretty surprising that the film’s getting a remake. All the same though, it’s good news for Aydin who himself has been a massive influence in the independent action scene as well as an uphill stunt professional, working under the stewardship of stunt multi-hyphenate Jonathan “JoJo” Eusebio and accruing credits on films such as Big Game (2014), Point Break (2015), Wolf Warrior 2 (2017), Birds Of Prey (2018), Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw (2019) and The Matrix Resurrections (2021), and Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi”.
Plan B also marks a reunion for Aydin, who served as fight coordinator on Stefano Sollima’s Without Remorse, starring Michael B. Jordan for Amazon last year.
One other easter egg that fans who saw the original Plan B film might recognize is Aydin’s character who had an affinity for doling out one-liners inspired by his favorite Stallone 1986 action film, Cobra from George P. Cosmatos, which can also be heard in the official trailer at the bottom of the page.
Plan B also adds to the current slate in the works by Aftergood and Stallone, which also includes a remake of the hit South Korean gangster thriller, The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil.
