SAMURAI CHAMPLOO Gets A YouTube Release! Watch It For Free Right Now!
Anime fans alike are probably spending a lot more time on YouTube this month thanks in part to FUNimation. They just released Wanatabe Shinichiro’s 2004 anime, Samurai Champloo online to view for free in Japanese audio with English subs, and having just seen the series for myself about a month ago, this show is one great way to kill time.Mugen is a ferocious, animalistic warrior with a fighting style inspired by break-dancing. Jin is a ronin samurai who wanders the countryside alone. They may not be friends, but their paths continually cross. And when ditzy waitress Fuu gets them out of hot water with the local magistrate, they agree to join her search for the samurai who smells like sunflowers.
To date and even long since its manga roots, the series continues to garner its favor among fans since Watanabe thrilled the crowd with the hit sci-fi, Cowboy Bebop in 1998. For this, we get a period Japanese action series brimming with unending coolness in all its action-packed glory, wit, charm and love right down to the finale.
And you know what? My only regrets are not having been able to see this show sooner, and that another season never happened. I love these characters, the story – the trials, tragedies and tribulations that test this unlikely trio of buddies as they slice, dice and eat their way through feudal Japan while testing the limits of their boundaries and personal growth. And all to one of the grooviest soundtracks you will ever hear for a show of this caliber.
Yes, I’m on the right side of history, and I am loving the view. And if you’re new to it, then so will you.
