TACFEST 2024 Review: ROGUE COP (Short Film): Action Cop Thriller with the likes of Hong Kong cinema
Highly influenced by Hong Kong action thrillers, Rogue Cop follows the story of an undercover cop who has to defend himself against a druglord who after find out his real identity kidnaps his wife to lure him and take revenge on him.
Produced by Singaporean film company Raging Fire, this small short feature written, starred, directed and choreographed by Jonathan Cheong, doesn´t hide its admiration on Donnie Yen´s starring action cop thrillers. Cheong himself doesn´t shy away on basing his performance on Donnie´s screen incarnations in features such as Flash Point or SPL, delivering an exciting action spectacle, with exceptional fight choreographies that comes from grappling to striking techniques, not neglecting the dramatic parts of the story that also becomes an important element in the action sequences.
This short film is a remake of Jonathan Cheong´s 2016 directorial debut, a short film of the same name that back then was a straight out oriented action that on this new reinterpretation has a more depth and well elaborated story.
Here you can take a look at that first production:
Rogue Cop is an interesting production that will be competing for the Quixote awards among many other international productions in the upcoming TOLEDO ACTION FEST and EXPO that will be held in the city of Illescas (Toledo, Spain) from May 15 to 17, 2024.
