RED SONJA: Bryan Singer Up To Helm Remake For Millenium
I sat and thought from time to time about who should star in a remake of Red Sonja. I’m thoroughly sold on the idea of casting either Rebecca Ferguson or even Jessica Chastain for title.

Big screen efforts haven’t waned for the X-Men film saga at all recently and you needn’t look further than the latest developments with Simon Kinberg’s latest attachment to possibly write and direct the next movie in question. That said, we now advance toward small screen endeavors wherein it was last summer that Bryan Singer and Matt Nix were officially reported as on-board for a pilot committment with Fox Television’s advancement of a live-action X-Men TV series inspired by the hit Marvel franchise.
On Wednesday, you’ll find things bustling a bit with word via Variety that actress Jamie Chung has been tapped for a role as the mutant, Blink, in the series pilot. Based on the teleporter as seen in the comics as early as 1994, Blink (a.k.a. Clarice Fong) is described as a sardonic, lively, mild tomboy forced to adjust to her new life in the aftermath of a series of traumatic events. Actress actress Fan Bingbing briefly played the role in the futuristic battle sequences against the Sentinels alongside her fellow herors in the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past which Singer directed.
Chung will be joined by Blair Redford who plays Sam, a strong-headed leader of the underground network Clarice becomes a part of amid the story of two ordinary parents forced into hiding with their children with the government surging in its hunt for mutants. 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television will co-produce the tentatively untitled series with the former handling principal production. Nix will serve as executive producer with Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and the aforementioned Kinberg along with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

UPDATE: Looks like Singer decided to pull a fast one and remove Kodi Smit-McPhee’s costume debut of Nightcrawler from his Instagram account. Luckily the folks over at CBM have the animation as well as a new picture. (H/T: Cameron)
Best. News. Ever.
The past two years have been huge in the world of superhero entertainment in film and television with two cinematic universes on their way between two studios, particularly at Marvel with their current slate between now through 2019 while ABC and Netflix pave the way for shows like Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Daredevil, Iron Fist and the newly cast A.K.A. Jessica Jones which just added its newest supervillain with Doctor Who familiar David Tennant.
In addition, there have even been talks for at least year to develop the longstanding X-Men franchise for a return to the small screen following its successful animated Fox Kids series in the 90’s, although this week, the studio is finally confirming the news with Fox Entertainment chairman Gary Newman speaking out on the matter. “It’s in negotiations,” he said. “We’re cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative.”
Reports also show that it is not likely that the show will air before 2016 or 2017, with word from The Hollywood Reporter (via Comingsoon.net) that 24 producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto are up to possibly develop the new series as showrunners with Patrick McKay and JD Payne will penning the pilot episode. Currently there aren’t any hints or details as to just how the story for the series will play out. At the same time, director Bryan Singer is currently gearing up for production on next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse with the studio also setting up a hopeful third Wolverine film under James Mangold’s direction, so this one will surely be worth paying attention to should we get any clues leaning toward a 2018 date.
Stay tuned!
Development is still up in the air for the forthcoming installment of X-Men: Apocalypse, following up filmmaker Bryan Singer‘s 2014 smash-hit, X-Men: Days Of Future Past. According to recent statements made by screenwriter and producer Simom Kinberg, recasting for certain roles may be a possibility depending on where the new film goes, which he also stated could follow-up the 2011 movie, X-Men: First Class.
Straight and to the point: I’m pretty sure that events within the last twelve hours or so may not be dimming away the serious, bitter reality that director Bryan Singer is facing right now with a pending lawsuit regarding an alleged incident in 1999. As such, with regard to the fate of X-Men: Apocalypse, indeed, the future is left unwritten.
Nonetheless, we still have an exciting movie to look forward to in the May 23 release of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, and there’s no need to punish the studio or the actors. I’m still looking forward to this movie and supporting what comes of this really epic story that has kept filmgoers in seats since 2000. So we’ll see what happens with Singer and what will be said and done in the days and months ahead about his situation while I wish all parties involved the best of luck. In the meantime, we have two new featurettes to check out for X-Men: Days Of Futute Past.
