REVIEW: CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – What, Are We Supposed To Be Cool Now?
A good friend of mine called the film a watershed moment in moviemaking history, at once brazenly announcing itself as Marvel’s own The Empire Strikes Back (something Spider-Man actually says in one of the film’s biggest action set pieces) –an honor and boast the Russo brothers well earn for the quality of the proceedings. Not to mention their previous directing prowess showcased in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. No question, two of the best films so far in the MCU catalogue.
STUNT FIGHTING THE FUTURE: An Interview With Umar Khan
His efforts in past year have granted him the necessary credentials, tools and people necessary to help fulfill his goals of becoming a top-tier action director in the film industry, and with more growth to come in film and television. I have to say, it’s rare for me to meet someone like Khan of his caliber who happens to have a team of his own that is just beginning, and having seen what’s out there from other groups I’ve witnessed in the last decade along with sampling a bit of what Khan has been up to, I have some high hopes.

Marvel Announces Official Filming Of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR And Full Cast!
Just in case your internet crashes today due to your service being inundated with all sorts of comic book movie fandom, that’s the official website for Marvel.com letting the world know that filming has begun on the latest segway into the third phase of the MCU, Captain America: Civil War. Few are missing from the cast and sooner or later we’ll know why; Honestly though, I haven’t seen Avengers: Age Of Ultron yet so I’ve been avoiding any and all talk on it before trying to see it on Friday night this week.
The names have all been piling up so far since late last year with Chadwick Boseman set to play superhero Black Panther, with names Daniel Brühl and Martin Freeman making the rounds as of late until now, ending further speculation. The film releases in 364 days and there will be more news between now and then, so feel free to start counting.
As for me, well…I have a movie to see this weekend. Ciao.
Marvel Studios has commenced principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on “Captain America: Civil War,” the third installment of its Super Hero franchise. The production will shoot on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production, as well as locations in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.
Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, “Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Community”) from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (“Captain America: The Winter Solider,” Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”). The film returns Chris Evans (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron”) as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 3”) as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”) as The Vision, Jeremy Renner (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “The Avengers”) as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”) as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Godzilla”) as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.
After his debut in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man,” ”Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”) will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in “Captain America: Civil War.”
The film also includes outstanding additional cast, including Chadwick Boseman (“42,” “Get on Up”) as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Revenge”) as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Bourne Ultimatum”), Frank Grillo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Warrior”) as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt (“A History of Violence,” Marvel’s “The Incredible Hulk”) as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”).
“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s creative team also includes director of photography Trent Opaloch (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Elysium”), production designer Owen Paterson (“Godzilla,” “Matrix”), and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”).
Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1941, “Captain America: Civil War ” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and the upcoming release schedule, which includes Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” on November 4, 2016, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” on May 5, 2017, and Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” on November 3, 2017.
Marvel Studios most recently continued its unprecedented success with the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, 2015. The film recorded the second biggest opening weekend of all time with a $191.3 million box office. It has also been the #1 release in every country where it has been released.
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Nabs Russo Bros To Direct
We’re five years away from seeing how the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will play out once the second phases completes with Avengers: Age Of Ultron in May, but the best part of it all may come as a delight to fans who enjoyed the stellar reign of last year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The word from Badass Digest (via Slashfilm) has it that filmmakers, brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will take the back-to-back approach helming the remaining two-part finale, Avengers: Infinity War, which are set to release between 2018 and 2019 in the month of May.
The news comes as the Russos are about to lay claim the Spring production of Captain America: Civil War for its release on May 6, 2016 whose screenwriters, Captain America trilogy and Thor: The Dark World scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are in talks to provide the script. The directors have also been attached for other franchises, including the current efforts between Sony and Marvel for a Spider-Man reboot on top of a possible stint in the realm of Ghostbusters for actors Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt, and from the looks of things, it doesn’t sound like too much. If anything, it just gives moviegoers two more reasons to go to the movies. And for what it’s worth, you may call them Anthony and Joe.
Chris Evans is expected to reprise the role of Captain America for all of his remaining films within the MCU after Age Of Ultron releases on May 1, while Civil War will also join him with appearances by Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., returning cast members Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson and introducing Daniel Bruhl as the villain.
Stay tuned!
Marvel Announces New Dates For Nine New Films!
The on-going war for bragging rights continues as Marvel and DC continue to duke it out, toe-to-toe, neck and neck for ultimate live-action comic book TV and film glory. DC is currently in the running following its most recent productions of productions for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, as well as the developing TV universe between current shows like Gotham, Arrow and The Flash, and upcoming teleivison properties like Titans, Supergirl and Krypton.
Of course, Marvel wasn’t going to let all that slide, especially after having just announced what it has in store for their cinematic universe at least twice in the past month. So on Tuesday, they held an epic event to shut down all epic events (at least for now), and it’s safe to say thay the fans are happy (seriously, I think one of them shit their pants – their words, true story). On that note, here it is, all nice and thick and whatnot:
May 6, 2016 was the official release date already pre-determined for the newly announced and officially-titled Captain America: Civil War, which will see title actor Chris Evans and fellow Avenger Robert Downey Jr. in front of the camera with directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo helming. Afterward, Scott Derrickson‘s Doctor Strange was tacked for November 4, 2016 with Benedict Cumberbatch in talks to star as of Monday.
The 2017 slate would also be kicked off with the advanced May 5 announcement for director James Gunn‘s ensemble rock-and-roll space hero thriller, Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 followed by actor Chris Hemsworth‘s return in the title role of the July 28 installment of Thor: Ragnarok, with scribes Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost writing the script. Actor Chadwick Boseman‘s presence at the event also ended specualtion for his confirmation in the November 3 release of Black Panther, much to the delight of fans after the appearance of the character Ulysses Klaw in last week’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron teaser.
Blasting off the 2018 slate, Marvel then followed through with an announcement for the July 6 date for Captain Marvel, in parallel to DC’s upcoming Shazam film for which actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was confirmed to play the film’s anti-heroic villain, Black Adam last month. Moving on with the big announcements of the day were updates for the two-part third installment to the Avengers saga with Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 and 2 set May 4 and then May 3, 2019, respectively, with the other Vin Diesel-hopeful starrer, The Inhumans slated for a November 2, 2018 date in between; it has been reported that Marvel took an interest in bringing the Russo brothers aboard to round off the 3.4 part Avengers finale, so details on this are still pending.
New banners are now online as well to announce the releases. As usual, these films will set the course for plenty of changes to come, turning the comic book genre into a pure, rich platform for bringing spectacular saga-storytelling to the big screen as a game changer in many ways. Its what some fans have wanted over years, and the number has increased tremendously. Marvel is heeding the call, so…you’re welcome, and more to come. In the meantime, check out the banners below, and stay tuned for more footage to go viral for the May 1, 2015 release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, directed by Joss Whedon, and director Peyton Reed‘s July 17, 2015 release of Ant-Man!
