I still crave the usual anime stretch, but 2019 has been more of a TV drama thing after Netflix’s Punisher and both seasons of Korean crime procedural, Bad Guys. BRON Creative, the joint venture between BRON Studios, led by Aaron L. Gilbert, and Creative Wealth Media, led by Jason Cloth, and Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) have reportedly entered into a multi-picture $100 million plus co-financing deal according to the latest press announcement from MGM. Neil Blomkamp’s Robocop Returns is just one of the key titles listed in the agreement on which Gilbert and Cloth will also serve as exec producers in this, the first deal between MGM and Bron. Following it’s French run in the cinemas last month, Frédéric Petitjean’s feature debut will finally have a North American outing on July 5 with Cold Blood. The title underwent a few changes for a period of time, though headlining actress Sarah Lind with lead actor Jean Reno for a role fans of the actor can relate to may be appealing. Funny though, one of his lines in the trailer is “I’m not used to protecting people…” which felt more like a fondly humorous job at The Professional for a sec there. Next month will see the first of a two-part endeavor from Toei Video with a cinematic premiere and subseqent live stage show event in the form of Gozen. The former, Gozen: The Sword of Pure Romance, now has an official trailer ahead of a July 5 release and is directed by Hidenori Ishida. GOZEN is a jidageki (period piece) dramas. The word “gozen” refers to a feudal game held in the presence of a Daimyo, described as a match “one must not lose”. Award-winning director Michael David Charles Hicks just recently unveiled the final trailer for his upcoming short, Eugene vs Humanity. A June release is in tow though no date yet known, and stars Colin James O’Gorman from a script by Hicks, and original music by To Kill A King front man Ralph Pelleymounter. When a misanthrope finds his ever-growing frustration with society too much to bear, his temper boils over, leading him to commit an act of violence. I’ve had my eye on this one since late last year when production announced Pellymounter was scoring this little project. I look forward to sharing this on the Hit List in due time.

THE BATMAN: Warner Bros. Confirms Its Star

Warner Bros. Pictures officially confirmed on Friday that Robert Pattinson will don the cape and cowl for The Batman. Pre-production begins this summer for a start date to be announced. The news comes just a few weeks after THR reported Pattinson as the frontrunner in a shortlist that also cited Nicholas Hoult as a candidate. Unfortunately that didn’t stop the breathless reporting from other bloggers writing up Pattinson’s casting as official news despite nothing being signed. Friday’s news makes it official with Pattinson set to be the seventh actor to take on the iconic DC role after Ben Affleck’s stint in Zack Snyder’s Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League. Reeves, best known for directing the last two Apes franchise titles for Warner Bros. will helm, and also serve as producer with Dylan Clark. (VARIETY)

I reckon I might have seen a trailer floating around many years ago for director Maksim Korostyshevsky’s 2012 action pic, Soliders Of Fortune – about a special forces captain forced to protect a bunch of thrill-seeking millionaires who want to experience war. Beyond that, I hardly remember this title and never saw the film for that matter as the marketing couldn’t have been great prior to the film’s release on only fifty screens here in the states that year.
