It wouldn’t be the first time that a film with the same title as another was released. For this, particularly with Heng Aik Siong’s latest now titled, The Furious: Pertaruhan Maruah, we’ve since gotten an official teaser with a Malaysia release slated on May 28. We also have an updated synopsis by way of the film’s IMDb page so, thank goodness for that. When YouTuber-boxer Danial insults their late father’s name, brothers Firdaus and Hakim reunite – one fighting for redemption, the other for revenge – in a battle that will decide not just who wins, but what remains of The Furious legacy. Siti Jasmina Ibrahim co-penned the script along with Adrian Teh for a cast led by Zul Ariffin, Sky Iskandar, Ikmal Amry, Marisa Yasmin, Zamarul Hisham, Sandra Lim, Zarul Husin and more. Don’t miss the teaser below!

Yuki is a high schooler living a nomadic life, tied to his family’s traveling classical theater troupe. Constantly switching schools has made him introverted and weary of making connections—until he meets Ken, a bright classmate who breaks through his shell. It’s a shame the international release didn’t stick with the original Japanese title, Mabuta no Tenkousei (“The Transfer Student’s Eyelids”), as it perfectly captures the soul of the film. The movie wraps its tribute to Taishu Engeki (Japanese popular theater) in a story of innocent friendship that, beneath the surface, reveals itself as a delicate tale of adolescent queer love. It’s told with quintessential Japanese subtlety, avoiding the heavy-handed tropes or “message-first” approach often found in Western productions. The final scene is a […]
The film opens in Japan in June from Shochiku.
The Overlook Film Festival is one area among a few I didn’t get to tap into this year in terms of review coverage. Otherwise, the four-day event has garnered some major promise with its line-up. Thus, with the ninth edition in our review come our raft of award wins and honorable mentions for this year’s festivities. This is a horror festival too, mind you, so I wouldn’t have expected a film like The Furious to have been among the picks, but…here we are. I’ve also seen the film so I guess this is a valid addition to their 2026 programming. Can’t wait to share my review either. Read on for all the official details and prized Overlook titles below!
