International martial arts action star and filmmaker Donnie Yen took to his blog this week to share news of his business venture alongside his wife, Cissy Wang, and Peter Lam, chairman of Media Asia Group and new business partner for their newly launched production company, Superhero Films. The new partnership is the latest to come since Yen became incredibly busy with a new slate of films to be pushed this year, including Special Identity and the 3D releases for The Monkey King, Iceman Cometh, and Ip Man which is still in development.
The latest film to make headlines this year along with Dustin Nguyen’s new film, Once Upon A Time In Vietnam, is a largely English-language action crime thriller made in Thailand called Angels from Gear Head Company and Kaos Entertainment. The film also stars Sahajak Boonthanakit, Gary Daniels and Ammy Chanicha, and is directed by Thai filmmaker Wych Kaosayananda, returning to the director’s chair since his directorial debut with the Antonio Banderas action thriller, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever.
The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat with actress Pooja Chopra serving as the female lead. Ganesh Acharya and Franz Spilhaus also coordinated and directed the action sequences.
Asian Movie Pulse is reporting via Screen Daily and Twitch that Fortissimo Films has picked up international distribution rights for the upcoming vampire action horror film, Rigor Mortis. The film is being heralded as the theatrical return of the classic Chinese vampire genre, starring Chin Siu-ho in a reportedly darker-toned performance than seen of his character in the previous Mr. Vampire film series.
According to new reports from Deadline, Tom Cruise is lined up for a main role in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which is set to be helmed by Guy Ritchie, with a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns and based on the classic NBC television series starring Robert Vaughan and David McCallum. The film will be the latest set up for a new spy franchise for Cruise, who is currently riding the success of the sequel-bound Jack Reacher, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who is also set to direct the fifth installment of Mission Impossible.
The film stars 34 year old Xing Yu (a.k.a. Shi Yanneng) a former shaolin monk who has already dazzled audiences on stage and in several films, including Fatal Contact, Flash Point, Ip Man, and twice with veteran action performer and director Xin Xin Xiong in Once Upon A Time 3 and Shaolin to name a few.
Deadline is reporting that producer Joel Silver is joining forces between his production company, Silver Pictures, and Studio Canal to revive the classic 1981 post apocalyptic sci-fi action thriller, Escape From New York. The reboot will reportedly be the set-up for a new trilogy, with Silver producing along with Andrew Rona, and executive vice president of Silver Pictures, Alex Heineman serving as executive producer. Currently, the developmental process is undergoing a search for a writer to pen the screenplay, while the word is that actors Gerard Butler (300, Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life), Jeremy Renner (The Bourne Legacy, S.W.A.T.), Tom Hardy (Warrior, This Means War) and Liam Neeson (Darkman, Taken, Unknown) are at the top of the list for Silver’s latest re-imagining of the character, Snake Plissken, previously played by actor Kurt Russell.
Between the production of director Jon M. Chu‘s latest film, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and its upcoming release, word has stirred about on the internet regarding the filmmaker’s participation in the potential reboot for Masters Of The Universe, the 1987 science fiction fantasy action adventure feature film based on the successful toy and animated television series.

Filmmaker Oliver Hollingdale took to Facebook this afternoon to announce a challenge to Dredd fans who have been long waiting for either the development of a sequel, or fan films by independent filmmakers of recent. Late last year, Hollingdale began pre-production of his inspired take on the comic-book movie character, built off the envisioned look in the 2012 film from director Pete Travis.

Beyond Hollywood recently forwarded a new trailer to promote the premiere of Ip Man: The Final Fight at this year’s Hong Kong International Film Festival. The trailer features a more different tone than can be seen in previous trailers, illustrating the latest directorial take on Ip Man’s life and legacy from filmmaker Herman Yau with a little more subtlety and charisma than a grim and dramatic actioner.
The film will star Tony Jaa reprising his role from the first film as Kham, and Petchtai Wongkamlao returning as Sergeant Mark, with Prachya Pinkaew returning as producer and director. It will also star Thai action stars Dan Chupong, Kazu Patrick Tang and Jija Yanin. The Man With The Iron Fists star, writer and director, RZA, is also joining the cast with his TMWTIF stunt double Marrese Crump, who is also choreographing the action sequences with Jaa, co-star Vince Makilingwith and Panna Rittikrai.
According to new reports from Jayne Stars, Silver Vase, Iron Knight the upcoming sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon may have found its director in actor David Thwaites, whose credits also include producer and executive producer in such films as Robocop and Black Swan, respectively. The news comes as word began developing around Donnie Yen’s hyped appearance in the upcoming film.
