HUMMINGBIRD: Sci-Fi Action Thriller Recasts For A Third Time With Milla Jovovich To Star

The lists of actresses that we don’t know of serving as candidates for upcoming sci-fi thriller, Hummingbird, probably stretches beyond previously reported mentions of Zoe Saldana and Olivia Munn. At any rate, we now have word out of Berlin that noted Resident Evil franchise star, actress Milla Jovovich will lead the film instead with cameras aiming to start rolling this summer.

Swedish duo Marcus Kryler and Fredrik Akerström are attached to direct the project from a Black List script by John McClain, now with a vision and tone keen on echoing thrillers like the Bourne franchise and Luc Besson’s 2014 blockbuster, Lucy. .Hummingbird will center on a female black-ops assassin whose latest mark forces her to rethink her identity and her purpose.

The film was announced in October of 2016 and has since been revised by Jovovich’s husband and noted Resident Evil franchise helmer Paul W.S. Anderson.

Mark Gao and Gregory Ouanhon, whose Fundemental Films are financing the film with Gary Glushon executive producing, will produce with Todd Garner of Broken Road Productions. Jovovich has a few projects coming next to this one which also entails an appearance in Firestorm helmer Alan Yuen’s spy thriller, The Rookies, and in the January 11, 2019 release of Neil Marshall’s Hellboy.

Lionsgate is handling international sales rights with UTA and CAA co-representing domestic according to Deadline.

Fundemental Films is switching gears in its casting for forthcoming action thriller, Hummingbird, according to Deadline’s exclusive on Tuesday. With scheduling conflicts now a factor, X-Men Apocalypse co-star Olivia Munn is replacing actress Zoë Saldana, the latter who is currently filming the first of several more installments of 20th Century Fox’s fantasy action saga, Avatar.

EFM 2017: Zoe Saldana To Star In Female Assassin Thriller, HUMMINGBIRD

There’s a lot that many of us may look forward to hearing between now and the remainder of 2017 with actress Zoe Saldana. One such end pertains to news surrounding Hummingbird, after landing on award-winning Swedish film duo Marcus Kryler and Fredrik Akerström (Reset – short, Battlefield 1 – VG cut scenes) for their feature debut at the helm.

Word from Deadline writes that Good Universe will begin selling the film at the EFM next week with Saldana attached to executive produce via her Cinestar banner as well as star as the lead; Based on John McClain’s Black List script, Saldana will play an assassin whose latest mark forces her to rethink her identity and her purpose.

Mark Gao and Gregory Ouanhon, whose Fundemental Films are financing the film with Gary Glushon executive producing, will produce with Todd Garner of Broken Road Productions whose Jeremy Stein will also executive produce. Saldana is up for several projects stirring in the last few years, most notably James Cameron’s upcoming return to the set for the first of four Avatar sequels set to film later this year. She will appear in Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2 on May 5.
