THE HIT LIST – May 1, 2017

The week turned out quite different for content rollout it seems! It wasn’t as quiet as I thought it would be last week and so this week’s Hit List should be plenty filling, and I thank you, readers, for tuning back in. As always, we begin with a nifty round of stunt reels from some of today’s budding and top stunt performers, starting with Kate Cochran, Tien Hoang, Sam Situmorang, Mustafa Bulut, Stephen Koepfer, Jennifer Badger, Joshua Pereira, Billy Bussey, John Lyke, Joseph Roark, Kemet Black Whitlow and, Sergei Dmitriev, Evan Dane Taylor and Ben Van Huis. There’s currently nothing available in terms of promotion that has caught our eye as of yet, so I say give time. Well, my weekend was all work and no play, but I did get to view a handful of shortfilms and a terrific independent feature film well on its way. Reviews will arrive in due time, while I’ve since gathered up what I could for this week’s installment of The Hit List, and I hope it suits your fancy. As always, the first round of action goes to the stunt professionals, coordinators and players alike with actor, martial artist and choreographer Matt Mullins, whose prolific work on ABC series, Marvel’s Agents Of Shield makes for a nifty little demo reel full of action clips from the show to start things off properly. The past week has been full of stunts, but not without a dash of drama – particularly over the haphazard-yet-brazen attempt of one particular person’s attempt at stealing glory she didn’t deserve. It happens often and it ALWAYS deserves calling out. In lieu of this, however, it also presents an opportunity to show some appreciation to one other aspect of the stunt community worth commending: The Stunt Drivers. Bridger Anne Fox and Evelyn Lesaca square off in ‘HETJA’! You can pretty much cast aside any high expectations you might have for independent filmmaker Jeff Lunzaga‘s style of filmmaking when it comes to any type of story, character development or scene guidelines. Why? Well, because these are exactly the kinds of things that “hyper-reality” filmmaking deviates away from – a formula which Lunzaga used in his previous shortfilm, Agent 6 and once more in the new fantasy action free-for-all, Hetja. Film reporters like myself get all kinds of shortfilms shared to us from aspiring content creators, particularly screenfighters and independent filmmakers looking to get acknowledgement through a bigger audience, the generosity of appreciative fans through future crowdfunding efforts to create films with better equipment and more people, and a possible shot for bigger projects in film. One good way to start, however, is to get your film circulated through film festivals, which is where film community The Collective, and independent filmmaker and Herofest 2014 film fesitival fellow organizer Jeff Lunzaga’s production company comes in: Torrid Productions in association with The Collective presents it’s 8th annual ACTION film festival featuring Bay Area ACTION filmmakers.
