BROKEN PATH stays steady on our streaming radar this week!
Don’t rule Johnny Yong Bosch out. His latest out of Vox Rocket Studio, Spades, is still in toe as the actor and ex-Power Ranger-cum-seasoned filmmaker also set his sights on Tidewater Comic-Con last week with proof of concept, Owl Girl. Following the loss of the Parliament of Owls, Skyway City’s greatest super heroes, a young girl named Lina Lopez rises up to defend the city from villains new and old. Zeke, the lone survivor of the Owls, must reluctantly take her under his wing and teach her what it takes to truly be a superhero. Not just the sky highs, but the lows as well. The series is intended for teen audiences and features a mix of serialized and episodic storytelling that reveals more upon rewatch. Bosch is shepherding the concept with Mike Federali and pairing Vox Rocket with Kamen Ramen Studios. Owl Girl is played by actress and industry […]
[10:04am EST: Updated with official synopsis] Actor, martial artist, VO talent and filmmaker Johnny Yong Bosch took to Instagram on Saturday to reveal the official title of his latest feature film, Spades. The independently-produced action thriller, also starring Jason Narvy (Power Rangers franchise, Wicked Game), hails from Vox Rocket Studio who’ve also revealed the first look teaser which you can view below. As a begrudged detective investigates a recent string of murders, he soon discovers his prime suspect is a mysterious vigilante out to bring down a ruthless up-and-coming crime syndicate. The Death Grip star and longstanding Power Rangers stalwart directs the film in his latest return to the helm following his collaborative work with Japanese action legend and filmmaker Koichi Sakamoto on films like Extreme Heist, 2005’s Devon’s Ghost: Legend of the Bloody Boy, the 2009 wall-to-wall hardcore thriller Broken Path, and Bosch’s most recent sci-fi action pilot concept, […]
Fans following actor Johnny Yong Bosch’s social media posts in recent weeks probably took notice of some set photos from a film production that just wrapped. News as of Monday confirms just that, with details on Hellfire, reuniting Bosch with seasoned Power Rangers franchise vet, Undisputed franchise director Isaac Florentine and starring Stephen Lang (Avatar, V.F.W.) in the lead role. According to Deadline’s Valerie Complex, the film was written by Richard Lowry and centers on ” a mysterious past who arrives in a small town and finds the residents in the grip of a ruthless crime boss and realizes he has to help them.” The film also stars Harvey Keitel and Dolph Lundgren, in addition to Bosch and co-stars Scottie Thompson, Michael Sirow, Chris Mullinax, Maurice Compte, Levon Panek, and Natalie Canerday. Bosch previously worked with Florentine on several installments of the Power Rangers franchise. The famed action director also […]
I’m becoming a little more inclined to bring back The Hit List in some form or fashion these days, and I’ll be certain to announce something by the year’s end. At any rate, you can look forward to seeing Johnny Yong Bosch’s own contribution, Ark Exitus, included in the mix. The short is expected to arrive online to watch for free beginning October 31, rejoining Bosch with fellow former Power Rangers and Extreme Heist cohort Jason Narvy. They look like us. And sound like us. But they are not us. Doppelgängers from a parallel universe have secretly assumed the identities of their opposites. To stop the threat of a mass invasion, STRUCTURE, a covert agency that polices interdimensional travel, has sent its best assassin. Bosch wore multiple hats on this project having both starred, directed and edited the pic, next to sharing penning duties with Kyle Higgins and Brian Buccellatto. […]
What if I told you one of the most deliriously over-the-top martial arts movies ever was made in 2008 and nobody saw it? That’s the story with Broken Path, directed by Koichi Sakamoto and starring Power Rangers alum and voice-actor extraordinaire Johnny Yong Bosch. The movie is filled with wall-to-wall action and a simple but compelling story but for some reason to this day has seen no proper U.S. release. Broken Path opens with Bosch’s Jack living the country life on a remote ranch with his wife Lisa (Pamela Walworth) and their daughter Maddy (Lanie Taylor). Their idyllic life is shattered when the house comes under siege by a group of masked assailants, all of whom seem to have history with Jack. One of the assailants in particular, a man named Yoshi, (Dan Southworth) claims to want to help Jack. It turns out Jack has a past he’s never told […]
After several days of teasing fans with vague images and posts, Bat In The Sun is now all in with their latest Kickstarter now live for Legend Of The White Dragon. Fans who’ve eyed the buzz on this project so far will undoubtedly recognize its DNA – made obvious with the clear casting of talents like Jason David Frank and Johnny Yong Bosch, former stars of a certain long-running tokusatsu series. Of course, there’s also this: In the Aftermath, the city was left decimated. A past reminder of the great battle and fall of heroes. As a result of the death and destruction the city became known as Angel Graves. The heroes were blamed, stripped of their titles and hunted. But as evil once again threatens to return they must rise from the ashes with the power of the White Dragon. The project is being billed as a darker and […]
I heartfully remember growing up watching Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade as a kid, and seething with excitement everytime the tank chase finale came up. The moment when a soldier gets knocked out by his own periscope after mocking Indy as he’s fighting the Nazis just outside the tank always sticks out as one of the funnier points in the film. It’s also one of those moments in film you can appreciate as time passes. A quick few Google searches will promptly land you at the name Nick Gillard, having succeeded since the late 1970s in stunt performance with an incredible list of titles to his name, although cult fans of sci-fi may take notice of his work as the stunt coordinator for the light saber action in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Other credits include Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow and Timur Bekmambetov’s Wanted, while it’s easy to see […]
Select cast members of hit tokusatsu crossover Power Rangers series have had some degree of success in other projects apart from wearing superhero spandex. That said, it’s 2016 and we’ve come into a new era of fandom and support for these actors, many of whom now have assembled an ensemble roster for Hellbinders helmer David Wald in the new action thriller, The Order, which has since undergone an extensive crowdfunding campaign to meet certain ends for the production. Footage has already rolled out in lieu of filmimg with a piping-hot sizzle trailer and several teasers in various forms to help further showcase our cast in full form, and in my humble opinion, all of it sells brilliantly. Not a lot of projects like this come to fruition, and sometimes not soon enough. Thus, it’s good to see THIS one moving forward, and with special thanks to the progress at the […]
The past week or more have drawn a bit of uproar over a conspicuous looking promotional image in the form of a triangular glyph. That image has been popping up on various respective fan pages of veteran cast members of the various seasons of Ameritoku hit series, Power Rangers, whilst their admins have all but denied any relation between the two. Of course, that didn’t change the fact that something, indeed, was brewing in the background, and it’s only this week now that the people behind the forthcoming feature-length action thriller, The Order, are officially pulling the curtain to unveil their agenda. Thus, they’ve put together a slick, badass sizzle reel to pitch their concept a la crowdsourcing site, Indiegogo, to help raise awareness, as well as funds needed and perks you can earn for your monetary support. The project itself marks the latest effort from executive producers and co-stars, […]
It has taken a couple of years since the crowdfunded production, completion and independent distribution of actor, martial arts stunt impressario and filmmaker Eric Jacobus landed his third directorial feature, Death Grip. And with other projects in the works, this particular film has since earned a rightful place with several distributors worldwide, including its new North American home at Osiris Entertainment with pre-order period open to the public as of a few days ago, and a street date set for March 11, 2014. If you’re not yet familar with the film, check out my previous review HERE following the trailer which you can check out in the embed below. You can learn more about Jacobus at the official website for his independent stunt forum, action cimema and choreography team, The Stunt People, in light of its 13-year anniversary since its launch. And, if you happen to also be a bit […]
*This article has been updated with correct information regarding the film’s production period. It appears actor and martial artist Johnny Yong Bosch has been pretty busy with a new film in recent years. His latest to date comes from director and action and stunt veteran David Wald who has worked on several previous projects with Bosch dating back to the earlier years of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series and the related subsequent feature films, in addition to the 2002 Alpha Stunts-loaded action spectacle Wicked Game (a.k.a. Extreme Heist), and Wald‘s shared co-directorial credits in the 2009 fantasy actioner, Hellbinders. Bosch has also maintained his staying power as a foremost action star, surprising beloved fans with the 2008 production and rare release of the uber-violent martial arts action thriller, Broken Path, along with his forthcoming appearance in Osiris Entertainment’s March 11, 2014 release of the Eric Jacobus-directed independent thriller, […]
