Five More Add To Marvel’s PUNISHER Series Cast

Director Neill Blomkamp’s BMW Films release, The Escape, arrived over the weekend in case you missed it. Otherwise and apart from its co-star’s recent return to the big screen in The Accountant, actor Jon Bernthal is still on deck to take charge of the Netflix viewership upon the forthcoming series of The Punisher. Marvel has announced five more to the cast ahead of its release next year after announcing three names earlier this month. The series comes following its official announcement this Winter and Spring as one of the worst-kept secrets in 2016, and rightfully so following Bernthal’s debut performance in the popular Marvel role supporting in the Charlie Cox-headlined Daredevil series. Crime Thriller STINGRAY Lines Up Jon Bernthal To Star, Shooting In Spring 2017

Marvel’s Punisher is already underway for Netflix but actor Jon Bernthal still has plenty of work ahead of him as one of the best actors to put in front of a camera these days. The co-star of actor Ben Affleck’s latest, The Accountant, is now poised to star in Anthony Hayes’s new crime thriller, Stingray with production set for April in Canada next year. Hayes co-wrote the script and is producing with John and Michael Schwarz, for which Bernthal will play a man entangled in a blood debt and forced in a matter of two days to kill one of his own family after accidently killing the brother of a powerful crime boss. The film is readying for the floor at the American Film Market next month. H/T: THR

Netflix At the end of the day, it really was a matter of time after rumors began swirling of serial treatment for the Punisher on Netflix. This past Spring saw actor Jon Bernthal introducing the character viewers earlier this year in the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil opposite Charlie Cox, and the responses have been nothing short of approving from critics and fans alike. As such, a series was greenlit in April this year and production is now underway, and as reported by several sources this year, continues the evolution of Frank Castle into the iconic crimefighting alter-ego as the series moves forward following Daredevil. It was back in college that I became keen on what BMWFilms was achieving with its spate of shortfilms at the time in 2002. There were eight films dubbed The Hire, and with my most favorite being John Woo’s “Hostage” as much as I am a fan of The Woo. THE PUNISHER Will Return To Netflix!

Well, it only took a little over three months, but now it appears Marvel is *officially* officially confirming the development of a Punisher spin-off series for Netflix. A show had been brewing for a while now with reports speculating its possibility until news broke in January that one would be happening before Marvel’s Head Of Television, Jeph Loeb tried walking it back a month later. Following his stellar portrayal of the classic Marvel character in the second season of Marvel’s hit Netflix series, Daredevil, Jon Bernthal will reprise his role once more as the vengeful Frank Castle with writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal, Casualty) serving as showrunner. Taking notes from shows like Law & Order and The Wire to layer up its comic book-layered thematic storytelling, the first season of the Marvel series adaptation, Daredevil, proved uniquely entertaining, as well as fundemental in realizing how studios and directors could better flesh-out superhero source material. I had my own doubts about this kind of thing long before this show existed, and my doubts were personally regarding programming decisions with some networks and not so much as creative direction, but that’s another can of worms I won’t get into right now. Trust Runs As Thin As Blood In The New Trailer For DAREDEVIL: SEASON TWO!

The current run up to Netflix’s second season premiere of Marvel’s Daredevil has been nothing short of exciting. The first season was a pure blast and now things are about to get piping hot in Hell’s Kitchen with actor Charlie Cox and newly added actress Elodie Yung portraying fellow Marvel anti-heroine, Elektra. The two now pair together in this week’s newest trailer and I, for one, am sure that fans are going to love Yung’s performance as we are sampled with a bit more of it since her character poster and animated graph came out this week. Netflix Roughly over three weeks remain for the second season of Marvel series, Daredevil and a slew of character posters and cinemagraphs have been rolling out ever since. The latter has just been updated with its roster complete with animation featuring actor Charlie Cox in the title role followed by, Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll, Jon Bernthal debuting as Punisher and newly added Elodie Yung kicking around the badies in a new look as Elektra. Phil Abraham directs the new season which now forces our hero to continue questioning his purpose with the rise of a new vigilante and the return of an old flame in the midst.
