It’s been eight (count ’em, EIGHT) years since VFX steward Ng Yuen-Fai’s conceptual sci-fi action short, Virtus, made the rounds with the substantial backing by the presence of actor Louis Koo whose One Cool Film label has been shepherding the project as producer. Indeed the wait has been long for the sci-fi thriller we all know now as Warriors Of Future, which joins Koo alongside actors Sean Lau, Carina Lau, Nick Cheung, Phillip Keung, Qian Wu and many more. Louis Koo returns as ICAC investigator William Luk for this upcoming Hong Kong action thriller, sequel of P Storm and fifth and final film of the series, directed by David Lam that promises a thrilling action spectacle, following an investigation that leads to a Thai human trafficking ring, through the menacing fire of explosions and rains of bullets in the streets of Hong Kong. Louis Koo is accompanied in this new adventure by Julian Cheung, Kevin Cheng, Jessica Hsua, Bosco Wong and Michael Tsui among many others, in a filming that started in December of 2019 and had to be paused in January 2020 due the pandemic. Soi Cheang will direct Kowloon Walled City, an adaptation of the popular 2010 cult manhwa, “City Of Darkness”, from creators Andy Seto and “Yuyi”. Former gang member Yu Shin-Tin turned businessman and philanthropist is a on a mission to take down Hong Kong’s most powerful drug lord. A July 12 release is in tow following the film’s acquisition by CMC Pictures with releases slated for North America, Australia and New Zealand. In the quadripartite drug market in Hong Kong, Jizo (Louis Koo) gradually expands in collaboration with some Mexican drug lords across the border, followed by a chain of dog-eat-dog events which shock and bring the whole trade on high alert. Transplanting from the 70s and into the 90s millieu, Jing Wong and Jason Kwan’s latest spiritual sequel follow-up, Chasing the Dragon II: Wild Wild Bunch, is finally out with an official trailer for its Hong Kong release. Mega-Vision Project Workshop Limited will undoubtedly be on hand at the various market places for buyers for the new crime thriller packaging a robust ensemble in actors Louis Koo, Gordon Lam, Tony Leung and Simon Yam. Jing Wong produced the film which sees Koo in the role of an undercover Hong Kong detective infiltrating the seedy network of an elusive mastermind behind a spate of ransomed kidnappings and million dollar extortions. Three years after Louis Koo was announced to partake in a live-action threequel Storm Riders adaptation, news out of FilMart in Hong Kong now confirms comic book auteur Ma Wing-shing will join the project for his directorial debut. Ma, who created the original Fung Wan comic series dating back to 1989 via publisher, Jonesky, will join filmmakers Jonathan Lee (The Brink) and David Lee (Insanity), for Storm Cloud, in which Koo will play the title role. Koo’s One Cool Pictures banner is producing the film following Andrew Lau’s The Storm Riders (1998) and the Pang brothers’ The Storm Warriors (2009), both which starred Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok in the respective roles of fantasy wuxia heroes per the comic’s title, Wind and Cloud.
