Hoping for leads, Moran (Purcell) and Thorton (Stahl) pay off a junkie informant. To provide for his wife (Bosworth) and son, Moran involves the stool pigeon in a deadly scheme. Confidential Informant arrives On Demand and Digital on June 27, and in theaters on June 30.
With much recent film buzz dedicated to Chad Staheski’s long-anticipated JOHN WICK 4 (2023) among other blockbusters being released, it is somewhat sad to see that Mel Gibson’s recent film ‘ON THE LINE’ (2023) overshadowed by other offerings – when in all honesty, Gibson’s work should never be ignored. Regardless of his exploits beyond the silver screen, the man is quite simply one of the greatest gifts to modern cinema; a talented actor, director, and icon that should command more respect than be recognised for courting controversy. (And yes, as this movie critic is Australian there is a clear bias but one that is justified and vindication especially if one refers to his large catalog of films). Upon viewing the trailer, ON THE LINE does prima facie, share some similar DNA with a little-known TV series from the 80s named ‘MIDNIGHT CALLER’ that seems to have all been forgotten despite […]

As the local police and bomb squad are running out of time before they can solve the mystery of who’s finger is at the trigger, he must find a way to work through his cyber captor’s demands or risk losing more than just his life. Such is the wind-up-and-the-pitch in a script storied and written by Leon Langford and Collin Watts for James Cullen Bressack’s cyberthriller, Hot Seat, following projects like Beyond The Law with Steven Seagal, and Bruce Willis starrers Survive The Game and Fortress to name a few. This time Bressack gets to add stars like Kevin Dillon and Mel Gibson to his roster, for a lean, contained hostage thriller that has its strengths in most of its performances, and mechanical flaws in […]

A fifth chapter of the Lethal Weapon franchise has been in the works for years, with iterations that even once included Chris Hemsworth as a potential prospect for such a film then working-titled “Lionhunters”. The Tracking Board broke that news in 2014 and obviously there’s been no movement, which is clearly not too heavy a burden for the Aussie actor and Marvel franchise mainstay, though it helps that the trades eventually broke news further down in 2017 with original staples Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and filmmaker Richard Donner behind the wheel. Fast forward four years later and while the franchise has sadly lost its biggest and highly celebrated director as of July this year, the word now is that Gibson is in talks to take the helm, in addition to star. The update, according to the trades, comes following an interview in London in which Gibson, who starred alongside Glover […]
Making a rare pivot to television, actor Mel Gibson is joining the John Wick cineverse a la The Continental, Starz’s three-part TV spin-off of the Keanu Reeves-led film franchise from Lionsgate. Deadline‘s Mike Fleming Jr. reports: The Continental will explore the origin behind the hotel-for-assassins, which increasingly has become the centerpiece of the John Wick universe. This will be accomplished through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, who is dragged into the Hell-scape of a 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the New York’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the iconic hotel, which serves as the meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals. No word yet on who’ll play Winston Scott (the hotel owner is played in the films by Ian McShane). Gibson will play a character named Cormac. There’s no […]

Director Joe Carnahan has been one of the most fascinating filmmakers I’ve followed in the last two decades, having seen all of his movies sans his 1998 directing debut, Blood, Guts, Bullets and Octane. Carnahan definitely gets right down to the grit and gumption of his stories. They’re not all masterpieces, but they kick ass at levels that are wholly worth the attention of his viewing audience. Often times though, that fact gets drowned out by a lot of bullshit, whether it’s Carnahan’s past Twitter fracas or the sheepish excuses of overweening film festival programmers who think a superhero movie about a latino crimefighter doesn’t come up to scratch (as documented in since deleted Tweets), or the blowback he gets for expressing views that reflect on matters of politics or just basic human decency, barring labels. Funny thing about politics though: More often than not, it is inherently inescapable in […]
Imagining Santa Claus as anything more than a lighthearted, kid-friendly figurative Christmas fixture in movies goes quite the route from the latest work of directors Ian and Eshom Nelms. For this, it’s not every season that a film like Fatman comes around what with all the potboiler Holiday movies and the occassional reminder of Tim Allen in a fatsuit for that one film franchise that’s probably airing on some channel on TV or something or another. Alas, it’s 2020 and in the post-Deadpool era, while Fatman doesn’t go the full monty with its action and violence, it certainly spills enough of it to balance out the reverence in its message and overall fun throughout its execution. It’s a film that takes the Cris Cringle you and your parents know (depending on how old you are, of course) and refurbishes him as a hefty, salt and pepper-bearded, steely-eyed version of Santa […]
Santa Claus has had it with everyone’s shit this year, and he’s letting off some steam in Fatman, the new action comedy from Small Town Crime duo Ian and Eshom Nelms. To save his declining business, Chris Cringle (Mel Gibson), also known as Santa Claus, is forced into a partnership with the U.S. military. Making matters worse, Chris gets locked into a deadly battle of wits against a highly skilled assassin (Walton Goggins), hired by a precocious 12-year-old after receiving a lump of coal in his stocking. ‘Tis the season for Fatman to get even, in the action-comedy that keeps on giving. Saban Films is out and about with the official trailer making reindeer tracks with its YouTube views as we speak as the film heads to a select theatrical release on November 13 before hitting digital on November 17. Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Chance Hurstfield also star.
If you’ve been keeping score with all things Cannes, you’ve likely come across news about Mel Gibson’s new dark action comedy, Fatman, which shoots early next year following the release of his next thriller, Boss Level, featuring Frank Grillo. Gibson is attached to play a rowdy, unorthodox Santa Claus fighting his business decline, now targeted by a 12 year-old seeking retribution after receiving a lump of coal in his stocking. Small Town Crime helmers Ian and Eshom Nels will direct from their own script. Brandon James of Rough House, Nadine de Barros (JT Leroy) of Fortitude and Lisa Wolofsky (White Crow) of Skywolf are producing with James’ Rough House Partners, David Gordon Green, Danny McBride and Jody Hill exec producing. Casting is still underway by Chelsea Bloch, C.S.A. (A Dog’s Way Home, The Mummy) and Marisol Roncali, C.S.A. (Deadpool 2, After) of Atomic Honey. “I am Excited to be working […]
Director S. Craig Zahler is exactly the kind of director you’re looking for if you want a film that leaves a lasting impact. Last year’s head-stomping hit with Brawl In Cell Block 99 proved to be an entertainingly violent allegory on redemption from the Bone Tomahawk director and apart from any of the reviews stemming from its screening last year at Venice, his newest entry, Dragged Across Concrete, seemingly teases something that could almost be just as brutal and chilling, and just as soulful by way of its soundtrack. DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE follows two police detectives who find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics is leaked to the media. With little money and no options, the embittered policemen descend into the criminal underworld and find more than they wanted waiting in the shadows. Summit Entertainment presents, a Unified Pictures production, a Cinestate production, in association with Look […]
A Prayer Before Dawn helmer Jean-Stephane Sauvaire is setting up Black Flies for Mad River Pictures ahead of EFM next week where IMR International will be to rep global sales rights; CAA and WME are handling U.S. rights. Starring Mel Gibson and Tye Sheridan, the film sees the latter in the role of Ollie Criss, a young paramedic whose perspective on life and death is drawn toward a ghastly shift as he and long-time paramedic, Rutkovsky, thrust themselves into the harsh realities of New York’s inner-city streets – high crime rates, homelessness, and widespread drug use, etc. The film is based on Shannon Burke’s 2008 novel from which Ryan King is adapting the screenplay. Mad River Pictures is financing the pic and is producing with Christopher Kopp, Two & Two Pictures’ Lucan Toh and Babak Anvari, and Anthony Katagas, as well as Sheridan who next appears in X-Men: Dark Phoenix […]
Upcoming Jungleland star Charlie Hunnam is set to join the set of Waldo early next year when cameras roll. Alex Ritman at The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that upcoming Dragged Across Concrete and Boss Level actor Mel Gibson and upcoming Alita: Battle Angel and Kung Fury 2 actress Eiza Gonzalez will headline the cast for the action-packed thriller.
