There’s a trio of shorts currently heeding my attention in the past week and I have some promo assets available for all three!… First up is the kind of action romance romp you might expect in Love & War, directed by Amy Johnston who stars along with Seth Allyn Austin. Here, the two play lonely assassins who find each other on a dating app, and on the run from the hitmen and women hired to kill them both. The project was written by Sean Crayne who recently unveiled the first official poster for his latest directing effort, Pay Homage, which also stars Johnston. The second comes from Adante Watts with a project I literally stumbled upon via social media last week. For this, we get Taco Tuesday which tells of a suburban housewife who embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue her husband from captivity in time for their dinner […]

One of the biggest treats I had was getting to see filmmaker John Balazs’ progression partly on social media for his most recent shortfilm, Night Shift. The second I spotted a fight demo he filmed with stunt performer and action actress Zia Kelly and lead actress Adele Elasmar earlier this year, I was instantly sold on its potential for greatness. More to the point, it pretty much asserted the second time I covered Elasmar’s work since her co-starring role in Balazs’ 2017 short film success, Dancer, which I very much took a liking to. That film showed all I needed to know about the kind of quality and mindset that Balazs brings to the set in addition to the two interviews we’ve shared thusfar. As such, it gave me great pleasure to be able to discuss Night Shift in a series of questions earlier this month in this second of […]
Writer and direct John Balazs talks to Film Combat Syndicate about his newest contained action thriller short, NIGHT SHIFT
Prima Lux Films inaugurates actress Adele Elasmar as a new action heroine for the festival and action genre crowd in the new short film thriller, NIGHT SHIFT!
A few years into covering some of filmmaker Johnny Balazs’s activity behind a lens has turned up with some pretty exciting results at Prima Lux Films. For one, it aided my efforts in immersing myself into the work of a worthwhile director who has deservedly reaped his ample share of recognition; his multi-winning short, Dancer, embodies just small, but hefty morsel of what Balazs has been able to achieve with the help of a dedicated crew and limited means. His latest, Night Shift, came with an effort toward fulfilling a crowdfunder that never met its goal, which is almost typical a challenge for crowdfunding a film project of almost any kind. And yet still, with the temerity and gumption of a true artist and creative, Balazs was somehow able to pull off achieving what was initially set to be a 20 minute proof-of-concept into a slightly longer show of skill […]
The last few years have proven helpful in discovering talent out in Australia, and not without some serious internal effort for that matter on the part of its select residents. Characteristically, Australia is just one example out of many in the world in which a demographic of inspired, up-and-coming creatives work and do their best to thrive in their field of choice, which is film. In parallel, however, the land down under also has its share of setbacks – specifically pertaining to the business stimulus of producing local action films. Melbourne-based filmmaker Johnny Balazs is just one out of the pressing handful of talents working and shaping himself around a lens to change this. “The term independent action cinema doesn’t exist in Australia.” says Balazs. “I would often ask people name one action film that’s Australian that you remember and can recall in the last 5 years. Most say Fury […]
