Going for a much more commercial approach, UK outlet Signature is tackling the early 2018 rollout of Charles Martin’s latest action thriller now titled The Shanghai Job. Flickering Myth premiered an official trailer this week for the Orlando Bloom headliner which also has Ip Man 1 and 2 cohorts Lynn Xiong, Simon Yam and Xing Yu starring. Washed-up private security agent Danny Stratton has been reduced to low level bodyguarding operations, after a botched job when a Van Gogh painting in his care was stolen. He gets a chance to restore his reputation when he’s given the rare opportunity to escort a valuable Chinese antique out of Shanghai. Noomi Rapace Espionage Thriller, UNLOCKED, Gets A September Limited Theatrical Release
Michael Apted’s new film, Unlocked, took awhile before breathing life stateside. Lionsgate Premiere is making it official this week with the announcement of a September 1 limited theatrical and release date for the Noomi Rapace actioner along with an official trailer to boot. After failing to apprehend the terrorist behind a Paris attack that claimed dozens of lives, CIA agent Alice Racine (Noomi Rapace) is forced to live in London as a caseworker. Unexpectedly, she is called back into action by her mentor, Eric Lasch (Michael Douglas), when the CIA discovers intel of another imminent attack. While “unlocking” the suspect, Alice discovers that the classified information she has uncovered has been compromised. Running for her life, Alice turns to ex-soldier Jack (Orlando Bloom) to prevent a lethal biological attack on the citizens of London. Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings franchise co-star, actor Orlando Bloom’s most recent starring and producing venture with heist/retrieval action thriller, S.M.A.R.T. Chase, hit an unfortunate legal stumble last year with production company Das Films. It’s never a fun gig to endure with a production being the launchpad of a new banner but it’s still one that BlissBloom Productions is counting on as a good first push and legal matters aside, the casting here will be a likely huge sell for moviegoers next to its action and spectacle. Enough helmer Michael Apted’s latest, Unlocked, is rolling out its sales in Berlin courtesy of sales agent Bloom. In turn, we have our first trailer ahead of the film’s release on May 5 in the U.K. with Prometheus star Noomi Rapace and Lord Of The Rings saga co-star Orlando Bloom headlining the cast. Julien Seri's SMART CHASE: FIRE AND EARTH Filming, Adds Six More To Cast
Currently underway is the production of Night Fare helmer Julien Seri’s latest production, Smart Chase: Fire And Earth. The film subsequently marks the start of a producing venture for its lead star, actor Orlando Bloom in China via his BlissBloom Productions banner following the film’s announcement back in June. Elephant White (2011) scribe Kevin Bernhardt provides the logline which reads of a washed-up private security agent who gets ambushed as he attempts to escort a pricey Chinese antique out of Shanghai. Special ID (2013) and The Great Wall (2016) co-star Jing Tian was also announced to star in the film next to actors Leo Wu, Cao Kefan and up-and-comer Liu Enyou, while Asian Film Strike confirms the presences of Hong Kong actor Simon Yam and South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae (Assassination, Operation Chromite) in his second stint in a Chinese production since starring in Li Jun’s summer thriller, Tik Tok. Orlando Bloom To Star And Co-Produce China-Set SMART CHASE: FIRE AND EARTH
I don’t get to attend festivals since they’re not in my purview, and so I miss out on a lot of international films that I would love to see on the big screen. That includes director Julien Seri’s most recent thriller, Night Fare which explores the dark tale of a bloodthirsty taxi driver on the prowl when a passenger jips him on his fare. The trailer itself looks awesome and so it’s garnered my own interest despite some mixed reviews. At any rate, I’m pretty appealed to Seri’s career growth, especially in the wake of last week’s teaser poster and news unveiling at the Shanghai International Film Festival that actor Orlando Bloom, star of the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, will star and co-produce in BlissBloom Productions in China ahead of filming for Seri’s next endeavor, Smart Chase: Fire & Earth.
