FISTFUL OF VENGEANCE Review: Netflix’s ‘Wu Assassins’ Sequel Feature Impresses Enough To Please The Fandom
Director Roel Reine’s latest return to martial arts and fantasy with Netflix’s Fistful Of Vengeance does a fine job of maintaining the same energy and flair of its preceding Wu Assassins series, and overall delivers largely on what fans can expect from a film headlined by Iko Uwais, an action star who broke ground more than ten years ago with some of the most elevated action cinema ever shot on camera.
Fans of Roel Reiné will be witness to his latest TV work in due time. For now, his current run is inbound for this Friday with upcoming Dutch sword epic, Redbad, following its release in the Netherlands.
Director Roel Reine has been doing a little more than making movies, it appears. The launch will occur in two phases while Reine will surely be including his own films as the announcement details below. ACTIONFLIX.COM – FOR GENRE FILMMAKERS AROUND THE WORLD.
Los Angeles – May 16, 2018
ACTIONFLIX.COM will be a Global Streaming Broad-caster specializing in independent Action Movies and Subgenres made by creative filmmakers around the globe. Global Streaming means that ACTIONFLIX movies can be watched in all territories around the world, on any platform (iPhone, lap tops, tablets, Apple TV, Xbox, etc.). The filmmakers will not only share movies, but most importantly, also share stories about the making of these productions. We’re creating a community where audiences and filmmakers come together around their common love for this genre.
The demand for audio visual content is growing expansively, with the Action genre being at the height of its popularity. Currently the market for Action Movies is dominated by the big studios with A-List actors. These are also the movies that one sees on streaming channels like Netflix, HBO, Sky and Amazon Prime. In the world of independent movie production there is a strong urge to make action movies or subgenre action movies, like action-horror or action-science fiction. But most of these low budget action movies are not finding any distribution in theaters or on the streaming services. With no stars attached, it is sometimes almost impossible to find distribution of any kind. It’s even more difficult when your movie is in a foreign language. ACTIONFLIX.COM is going to change this.
The technical streaming service is built and provided by NEP from The Netherlands, they are a market leader in the field of video delivery and has one of the largest audiovisual data centers in Europe at its disposal.
ACTIONFLIX is an initiative of award winning film director Roel Reiné (‘Death Race’ Sequels, ‘Admiral’, ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’, ‘Black Sails’, ‘Death in Tombstone’), who started his career with Low Budget Action movies. After he moved to Los Angeles he became a household name for action movies at the Major Studios and these movies became very successful. Some of Roel’s early movies will be online at ACTIONFLIX including his award winning debut movie ‘THE DELIVERY’.
PHASE 1: Start of the online website with an ‘iTunes construction’ of filmmakers putting their films up for display. Audiences around the world, can see them streaming on their devices for a low fee. This price can be decided by the filmmaker himself, but we want to keep it low, like $0.99 or $1.99 per title. Every movie will then be accompanied by the “making of”, director’s commentary track, downloadable screenplays and set photos and props of the movies can be bought and/or self created merchandise sold.
RULES: ACTIONFLIX will take 30% of any revenue of the service. 70% is for the filmmakers. Movies need to be in English or with English subtitles on the movie itself. No complicated deliverables! The only deliverables are: HD QuickTime video master file with stereo or Dolby sound and (if needed) with subtitles included on the picture. Trailer in HD
QuickTime. Making Of or other content related to the movie in HD QuickTime or a separate link to filmmakers own YouTube or Vimeo channels. A movie poster and set photo’s in JPG or Tiff. Filmmakers sign a short contract that declares that all content is owned and created by the filmmaker (including music) and indemnified ACTIONFLIX for any rights related problems. Having ACTIONFLIX doing the digital distribution of your movie online in all international territories, is not an exclusive arrangement. Filmmakers can still keep other distribution contracts and possibilities. Filmmaker decides themselves on the rental prices and they will get a quarterly revenue declaration and is then paid quarterly through PayPal.
For PHASE 1, projects can be submitted to ACTIONFLIX now, and they will likely be included at the launch.
– Marketing: when the site is up and running we will start with a small and later bigger marketing push.
– Creation of ACTIONFLIX App: for all devices.
– Original Content: Creating original content, movies, TV series and documentaries, with the filmmakers that are distributing their movies on the ACTIONFLIX channel.
– Audience Participations in creating new content. Create content using new ways to involve the audience early on in pre-production. Audience can for instance choose certain titles, scripts, locations, and plot twists.
– Subscription: Combining subscriptions and VOD on the channel.
– Crowdfunding: Independent moviemakers can start a crowd funding page for their project targeted to an Action Movie supportive audience on ACTIONFLIX. Give-away’s can be pre-production audience input, on-set visits, making-of videos, extra cameos or similar.
– Academy: Viewers are allowed to cut clips from the movies and give commentary, reviews as well as educate other viewers (and filmmakers) on the art of filmmaking.
– Festival: Organize local and worldwide festivals to promote these genre films.
– Awards: Yearly awards will be given to the movies and their makers on the channel.

Release dates are still pending for The Admiral helmer Roel Reiné’s new sword-and-shield epic, Redbad. In the meantime, the official trailer is now running online following its most recent presentation at Dutch Comic Con this month where Reiné and select cast members attributed some lip service to the film’s campaign ahead of its June 28 release.
Actor Gils Naber stars in the film set in the Dutch town of Dokkum as the Frisian king, jaded by old Frisian pagan traditions. He finds himself exiled and blamed for his father’s death at the hands of the Frankish invasion and later marries a Danish princess after aiding the king in defeating a rival army, bolstering his own efforts to return his homeland and settle the score with ambitious warlord Pepijn van Herstal once and for all.
Also starring are Lisa Smit, Loes Haverkort, Søren Malling, Derek de Lint and Jonathan Banks. Check out the trailer below from Screendaily.
Director Roel Reine has been hard at work following up on films like The Admiral and Marvel’s The Inhumans, here and now with big scale sword-and-shield Viking pic, Redbad. The film is on track to screen a small portion for buyers at the upcoming European Film Market while Screendaily exclusively confirmed a U.S. pick-up by Epic Pictures distrib branch, Epic Releasing.
The Admiral scribe Alex van Galen’s script sets the tone for the Norse war tale set in the 8th century amid Northern Europe where the Frisian king (Gijs Naber – The Heineken Kidnapping, Penoza) is blamed for his father’s death and the invasion of the Frankish army, and is subsequently cast away by his own people. Time away sees him marry a Viking princess before returning to his homeland to settle the score with ambitious warlord Pepijn van Herstal (Jonathan Banks – Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and save his family once and for all.
“Roel Reine is one of the best action directors in the film business and Jonathan Banks gives the performance of his career,” Patrick Ewald, CEO of Epic Pictures, told ScreenDaily. “When Danielle Raaphorst and Incredible showed us early footage of the battle scenes and the impressive large-scale production value, we knew that Redbad was destined to become an Epic Release.”
Prior to North America, sales agent Incredible Films had already Redbad to Spain (ADSO), France (First International Production), South Korea (Movement Pictures), Netherlands and Germany (Splendid) and to the Middle East (SRND). A Dutch release is in tow for June thusfar while further dates and details remain pending.
A teaser has already been available since December and while Incredible Films will be showing its own footage privately at Berlin, the teaser below should suffice plenty.
Let’s just put this out there: Regardless of how ecstatic you are over Marvel’s The Inhumans, it looks less than stellar or even IMAX worthy judging by Thursday’s EW reveal of our cast in costume. Perhaps some footage may tell a different tale, but that’s not what we get in the new teaser now online. Instead… we get voices!
Check it out below and see if it’s your thing or not. It could be, but I rest my case here until I see some actual superhero action adjudicating why we should see the first two IMAX-bound episodes from director Roel Reine. That premiere will arrive with the first two episodes on September 1 before commencing its small screen run on September 26 for eight more episodes from ABC after frequenting Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. to tease with for so long.
The Inhumans, a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. “Marvel’s The Inhumans” will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.
Starring are Anson Mount, Ken Leung, Serinda Swan, Eme Ikwuakor, Isabelle Cornish, Iwan Rheon, Mike Moh, Sonya Balmores and Ellen Woglom. Catch the teaser now!
While it took a few years for Marvel to get its footing with its stake on The Inhumans, the previously-planned MCU film eventually switched gears toward television as of last November. For this, we turn to the latest announcement of Hell On Wheels actor Anson Mount now being poised to play the role of Black Bolt in the forthcoming adaptation.
Originally the 1965 brainchild of comic book auteurs Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, The Inhumans story is one that eventually branches out to other comic book properties throughout its history, but mainly centers on a society of superhumans who were originally test subjects of the Kree alien race thousands of years ago in an attempt to build an army to defeat the Skrulls in a time of war. This very secret society of superhumans were led by their king, Black Bolt whose voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city.
“Anson loves the challenge of playing a character who will only communicate silently,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer. “His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt.”
Added executive producer and showrunner Scott Buck, “Black Bolt is a character whose deep complexity must be conveyed without uttering a single word, and I’m very excited to have Anson on board to bring him to life.”
Mount is so far joined by Iwan Rheon (“Game of Thrones,” “Misfits” “Vicious”) as the clever and charming, loyal and secretly ambitious Maximus The Mad. Also executive producing is Jim Chory for The Admiral and Hard Target 2 helmer Roel Reine who is directing the first two episodes which will premiere in IMAX theaters this September preceding an eight-episode run on ABC Television.
An undisclosed period of time has since otherwise confirmed that actor and action star Scott Adkins will be leading The Admiral helmer Roel Reine‘s latest, Hard Target 2. There are currently no plot details as of yet aside from its shared roots with its 1993 predecessor having starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and acclaimed filmmaker John Woo at the helm, though it’s fairly nice to know that more information about it is now coming to pass.
As such, it’s actress and martial arts star of Chocolate and Tom Yum Goong 2 fame, Jeeja Yanin, who is contributing to the buzz with a new behind-the-scenes rehearsal photo of her own for the film which Woo is also producing.
The film reunites Yanin with her fellow Raging Phoenix co-star, Kazu Patrick Tang who serves as action choreographer.
At some point between now and next year will mark Adkins‘s forthcoming Marvel movie debut with lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange while Yanin continues her segway abroad in Michael Jai White’s upcoming MMA threequel, Never Back Down 3. Also waiting in the wings is one of Tang’s recent contributions as action director, Toby Russell’s White Tiger which releases hopefully some time next year.
Stay tuned for more info.
Regardless of whatever feelings you might have about actor, musician and filmmaker RZA‘s 2012 kung fu hip-hopera, The Man With The Iron Fists, the fact is it now has a sequel and as soon as this April, it’s coming home on DVD and Blu-Ray. On that note, we finally have some artwork from the folks over at Universal for The Man With The Iron Fists 2 prior to the film’s release, which you can check out just beneath.
Thaddeus (RZA) is back in this explosive action adventure inspired by kung fu classics. A reluctant villager joins forces with a mysterious outsider to fight off powerful evil forces, both earthly and otherworldly, in a 19th century Chinese mining town. When a stranger, Thaddeus, is found badly wounded near the village, miner Li Kung (Dustin Nguyen) and his wife Ah Ni (Eugenia Kang) offer him refuge. As he heals, he becomes entrenched in a conflict that pits the townsfolk against the evil Master Ho (Carl Ng), his nefarious Beetle Clan and the terrifying Lord Pi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa). With Thaddeus at his side, the mild-mannered Kung transforms into a deadly warrior in this martial arts epic.
Michel De Ruyter helmer Roel Reine directs this time around while the film also brings back a few of the original film’s memorable favorites, namely Grace Huang and Andrew Lin as the Yin/Yang twins who met their demise in the first film, so their addition to this film adds further interest to the intrigue. April 14, 2015 is the date, and you can now pre-order your copy at Amazon or wherever movies are sold. For reassurance, however, the trailer below should suffice.
H/T: City On Fire
The film is expected to see a line-up of some old faces in addition to new ones, featuring actors Dustin Nguyen and Roger Yuan (Once Upon A Time In Vietnam), actress Eugenia Yuan (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: The Green Destiny), and Cary Tagawa (Skin Trade), with the fascinating return of Andrew Lin and Grace Huang in their roles from the first film as the Gemini twins. As early as it is, further details are pending as usual. In the meantime, after being teased with just twenty seconds of it in the previous week, the full teaser for this direct-to-DVD sequel is officially online. Check it out below!
