Also starring are Yu Jun-sang, Jin Kyung, Heo Sung-tae, Yum Hye-ran and Kim Si-ha for the film’s South Korean release on November 1. Enjoy the trailer!
The Moon is now available from Well Go USA. Director Kim Yong-hwa’s ability to tell big and epic stories remains as spectacular and thrilling as you can expect with his latest sci-fi thriller, The Moon. I will say that just a little bit of the writing fumbles early in the first half but picks almost lithely back up with moments of pure suspense and upheaval at a healthy pace enough to warrant recommending. At the heart of the story is a redemption tale that centers on Jae-kook (Sol Kyung-gu), who runs a remote astronomics observatory far and away from his heyday as the promising director of operations surrounding South Korea’s ambitious efforts to put one of its own on the moon. That effort occurred five years ago and it ended in a tragedy that’s since carried over to the present day when the son of the former team’s departed, Sun-woo […]

Folks attending this year’s Berlinale are just days away from the world premiere of Byun Sung-hyun’s killer-looking new thriller, Kill Bok-soon. The Netflix exclusive is back in the headlines as of late Wednesday with a brand new trailer that definitely cranks things up with hard-hitting violence to entice the genre fandom a bit, and with none other than Jeon Do-yeon leading the charge. Just check out the programming notes as written at the Berlinale website: Gil Boksoon leads a double life. She is both the mother of a teenage daughter, whom she is raising on her own, and a legendary professional killer at top-tier killing agency MK Ent. One could even say that she is better at killing people than raising them. But one day, either out of motherly instinct or simply because there are limits to what even the ruthless Boksoon is willing to do, she refuses to complete […]
Director Na Hyun will follow up his 2017 feature directing debut, The Prison, now tackling spy action thriller, Demon (a.k.a Yacha), according to Pierce Conran at KOFIC. Filming is abound with a cast that currently enlists veteran film star Sol Kyung-gu (Memoir Of A Murder, 1987: When The Day Comes), and actor Park Hae-soo (The Pirates, By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture) for what so far looks to be a 2020 release. Demon tells the story of Ji-hoon, a former Seoul prosecutor demoted to an office in Shenyang, China where he goes toe-to-toe with Kang-in, an elusive, ruthless NIS ghost operative who plays (and kills) by his own rules. This reads especially like the kind of film that fans of Na’s work could go for, especially now that he’s proven himself with The Prison, a delightful action crime thriller that stars Kim Rae-won who is inarguably one of the best […]
Won Shin-Yeon landed a healthy crowdpleaser in 2013 with the Gong Yoo-led espionage fugutive actioner, The Suspect. The former stuntman-turned-director has dabbled sufficiently in years prior with other genres like horror, comedy and suspense and for this, his latest novel adaptation, Memoir Of A Murderer, should generally prove a worthy blend of each for Won’s audience among others. Pacing overall wanes midway into the film to a small extent as Won extracts as much narrative as he can from Kim Young-Ha’s 2013 publication. Accomplished in wake of this are a mulitude of things that help supplement the film’s progression without losing its identity or energy, including solid performances from the cast led by Rikidozan and The Merciless star, actor Sol Kyung-Gu who compels as Kim Byeong-Soo, a stoic former serial killer-turned-veterinarian now struggling with dementia and looming Alzheimers. True to its film title, Memoir Of A Murderer dives right in […]
The Suspect helmer Won Shin-Yeon is back and laying it on the line once more with his latest, Memoir Of A Murderer. The movie opens in Korea this September and headlines with an intense tale of a former serial killer suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease who finds himself pitted against another serial killer who happens to be dating his daughter. Crazy shit, eh? Well, crazy is compelling is intriguing is fascinating is good for Well Go USA’s bottom line when it comes to appealing to the sensibilities of Asian cinema fans. They’ve announced themselves a U.S. trailer up front with all the trimmings, featuring Silmido and The Merciless star Sol Kyung-Gu opposite fellow Public Enemy Returns cohort, actor Kim Nam-Gil, and Gangnam Blues actress Seol Hyun. Take a look and keep your eyes open for an official release date!
Heavily into a screenwriting career with a few laurels to his credit, award-winning screenwriter Chun Shun-Il has done well for himself and particularly since his most recent penned offering with last year’s Joseon-era high-seas adventure, The Pirates became one of last year’s box-office hits. Nowadays he’s taken his momentous career into the director’s chair with the upcoming wartime drama, The Long Way Home starring Public Enemy franchise actor Sol Kyung-Gu and Hwayi star Yeo Jin-Goo. The film is on track for a September release and the latest teaser is now online which presents quite a fun-looking glimpse from Chun’s debut. SYNOPSIS: Set in 1953, during the Korean War, a middle-aged South Korea soldier and a teenage North Korean soldier meet by chance at the Western Front. They struggle over a tank for different purposes and destinations, but eventually come to realize they are both victims of the war and become […]
