Deadline‘s Alexandra Del Rosario is reporting that John Wick franchise scribe Derek Kolstad has penned a script on spec for a live-action treatment of popular side scrolling video game, Streets Of Rage. The report on Monday comes more than a decade since the game’s development into live-action back in 2011, with one treatment being steered by SEGA/Hakuhodo DY Group offshoot, Stories International back in 2014; That report followed up in 2016 with announcement citing Stories’ joint venture with The Walking Dead producers at Circle Of Confusion. Fast forward six years later in the wake of Paramount’s latest two-for-two sucessful adaptations of SEGA property, Sonic The Hedgehog, where the task of bringing Streets Of Rage to live now falls in the hands of Sonic producer dj2 Entertainment, alongside Escape Artists who produced The Equalizer films. It looks as if 2017 will be an otherwise reassuring year for gamers and the prospects of live-action adaptations apart from Warner Bros.’s Mortal Kombat which finally crewed up with a director. It’s been nearly thirty years since many of us played with a Sega Genesis and spent much of my youth in the late 80’s in front of Altered Beast. I used to get on my mother’s nerves with it back then…fun times! Nowadays, I’ve pretty much distanced myself from gaming culture, but always kept up with movies, and with the successes of films like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat at the time, I often wondered when we would see some of these other properties granted the same treatment. The official Facebook page for Whirlwind Action has just made its latest announcement regarding the first season of Slug Street Scrappers: Bittersweet news:Due to repeat scheduling issues with multiple performers, Slug Street Scrappers 3 will be the final episode of the first series. There might be a new Scrappers series in the future, but for now, we plan to go out with a bang with Slug Street Scrappers 3. The trailer will be released within the next couple of days, and the full film should be ready sometime in March.However, Whirlwind Action is excited to announce it’s next web series, “Maces & Mages”.
