STREETS OF RAGE Lands New Director, Writers For Live-Action Fighting Game At Lionsgate
Streets Of Rage is in full swing development with new people in the wheelhouse for the live-action adaptation of Sega’s side-scrolling action video game franchise. Jeymes Samuel (The Harder They Fall, The Book Of Clarence) will now direct the film from a script by Pat Casey and Josh Miller (Sonic The Hedgehog trilogy, Violent Night) who will follow up on a draft last written by Derek Kolstad (John Wick).
Streets Of Rage launched in 1991 and follows three young ex-cops as they take to the streets to crush an evil crime organization led by Mr. X. Sega’s Toru Nakahara, Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson are producing alongside Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Tony Shaw, and Kolstad. Casey and Miller are exec producing
“We and our partners at Sega knew that ‘Streets of Rage’ demanded a bold filmmaker,” Lionsgate film chief Erin Westerman said. “Jeymes Samuel’s visceral and explosive style — not to mention his signature use of unforgettable music — is perfect for audiences both familiar with and new to the series. We are so excited for how he will bring his own memorable take to this beloved video game IP.”
Plot details on the new movie remain pending as does casting details as the film moves forward at Lionsgate following their acquisition of the title back in 2022.
