NEW YORK WILL EAT YOU ALIVE Casts Colin Firth For ‘Zombie Brothers’ Adaptation From STX And Tencent

Colin Firth is set to star in the tentatively titled action comedy, New York Will Eat You Alive. STXfilms and Tencent Pictures’ jointly announced the project this week with Todd Strauss-Schulson (Final Girls) attached direct from a screenplay by Alex Rubens with current revisions by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. The film is based on Jia Haibo’s Tencent digital comic hit, Zombie Brothers, which accrued more than 28 billion views over 516 episodes, and more than 3.7 billion views across its first two seasons since 2011. The franchise has also been adapted into a popular stage play, which had a record-breaking run of sold out shows across the region. Tencent Pictures is co-producing with STXfilms alongside Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin, Michael Parets and Peter Kiernan at Free Association. ROGUE: David S. Goyer Developing Female-Led CIA Op Thriller For STX, Tencent

There’s not much to go on here but Anthony D’Alessandro’s exclusive at Deadline is up for an original project called Rogue from Phantom Four’s David S. Goyer and Keith Levine. T.J. Fixman, who penned up to six game installments of the Ratchet & Clank franchise as well as a 2016 animated movie, wrote the film which is described as in the spirt of Die Hard and “follows a deep-cover CIA operative on the longest night of her life.” Rogue is being set up at STX Entertainment with Tencent Pictures co-financing and shepherding its release in China. Fixman is also behind a number of projects that are in tow, including Dope helmer Rick Famuyiwa’s in-development vigilante actioner, Past Midnight with the Russo brothers producing, and John Wick franchise star, actor Keanu Reeves still attached to lead as of last March.

According to a new announcement on Wednesday this week, Zombie Brother is now in the works in co-productions partnership with Robert Simonds’ STX Entertainment and Tencent’s film and TV shingle, Tencent Pictures. Flagship Entertainment Jon Turtletaub’s shark thriller, The Meg, is currently poised for an August 10 release. This leaves off any number of projects that lie in wait for action star Jason Statham whose latest comes across as one of the actor’s several career maneuvers toward the Chinese market. Such is also what appears to be according to Tuesday’s exclusive over at The Hollywood Reporter citing a new deal between Statham, STX Entertainment and Tencent Pictures. Statham, who currently reigns in box office success next to his fellow headliners in Universal Pictures’s Fast saga, will reportedly star and produce the project which will be a Chinese co-production. Chinese media conglomerate, Tencent, has been busy making making headlines as of late, especially with their equity stake in Legendary’s upcomig epic, Warcraft, and now with its film arm, Tencent Pictures, making room with Celestial Pictures in recent weeks for a new remake of a kung fu classic.
