The sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise has been a bit stifled but is slowly taking shape nonetheless for its Spring start date and presumably 2018 release. Thus, casting news this week confirmed Netflix series The Crown co-star Vanessa Kirby was in talks for a role in the new film which will ultimately see actor Tom Cruise back in the role of IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Details of her role are pending among others while Variety reports Cruise is producing the film with producer David Ellison, and with a script by Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation helmer Christopher McQuarrie who is back in the director’s chair. The New MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Film Gets A Title And Release Date

Currently at my hand is my own recovery from election fatigue while I get back into the thick of things. Alas, amid all the craziness came news of M: I6 – Mission Impossible, now stamped for a July 27, 2018 release date. Promising more action and bigger stunts, actor Tom Cruise will be back no less to star in, as well as produce along with Paramount Pictures and David Ellison’s Skydance. The cast is far from confirmed though it’s currently expected that actress Rebecca Ferguson may reprise her role from last summer’s preceding hit success, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Production is expected to commence in the Spring from a script by Christopher McQuarrie who is signed on to direct. Next year’s June 19 and September 29 dates mark the respective releases of Universal’s remake/reboot of The Mummy and Doug Liman’s American Made. H/T: Variety

Deadline is reporting that Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, the screenwriters behind the Jesse Owens biopic, Race, are on board to write the sequel for the 2014 cult hit, Edge Of Tomorrow. The first film adapts the hit manga, “All You Need Is Kill”, with a plot that saw actor Tom Cruise as a public affairs military major swept into an Earthbound battle with aliens in which his own catastrophic death mingles his blood with the enemy, forcing him in a time loop that repeats the day over and over. So, what’s a Tom Cruise action movie without Cruise performing real stunts? Answer: Well it wouldn’t be director Christopher McQuarrie‘s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and as such, they’ve confronted the issue head on with the award-winning star clearly in his element, and while the star is normally known for performing a lot of physical acting scenes himself, I would safely categorize his most death-defying scene in the upcoming film so far as a solid stunt that stunt professionals would be proud of. Of course, the fear factor does settle in as Cruise illustrates in the following featurette. As for the film, it arrives on July 31.
