It’s been nearly 50 years since Mattel’s popular die-cast toy line property, Hot Wheels launched and became the epicenter of car models for many a collector and manfacturer. In turn, it’s been thirteen years since a film adaptation had been in the works at Colombia Pictures and then Warner Bros before gaining progress at Legendary Pictures five years ago. That decision was influenced in large part by the success of director Justin Lin’s Fast Five at the time, and no less to the tune of $621 million dollars. Actor David Carradine starred in Paul Bartel’s Death Race 2000, an adaptation of Ib Melchior’s classic short story, “The Racer”, before Anderson stepped up with prime action star Jason Statham for Death Race in 2008 with 2 recast direct-to-DVD sequels thereafter. As of this week, Crackle feature, Extraction helmer Tony Giglio has written the script for a fourth in line with Half Past Dead helmer Don Michael Paul directing. It was about a year ago that then-writing partners Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci announced plans to develop a cinematic universe for Universal Pictures circling iconic movie monsters of the past century. Those efforts have since advanced following Kurtzman and Orci parting ways earlier this year, leaving Kurtzman now sharing the workload with Chris Morgan for the forthcoming slate of monster movies which would also include The Mummy, Van Helsing, Dracula, Frankenstein and others. Today feels a little Fast And Furious-themed, and that’s partially my fault particularly after just completing an article this morning about actor Vin Diesel and actress Jordana Brewster. Universal Pictures just went public with a special note to fans of the franchise in light of late actor Paul Walker, in addition to a small update on the production involving Walker‘s brothers Caleb and Cody. The two brothers have been the center of some attention after Paul Walker died tragically in a car crash in November of last year. KUNG FU Moves Forward At Universal And Legendary

Producers Jon Jashni, Scott Mednick, Thomas Tull and Vincent Newman are reportedly looking for a new director to help revamp current efforts to bring the classic martial arts TV series, Kung Fu, to the big screen. The news comes accompanied by reports on Friday that after several years of lingering announcements, Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures are officially moving forward with the project. The name refers to the original ABC television series that ran from 1972 through 1975 which starred late actor David Carradine as Kwai Chang Kaine, a shaolin monk who initially ventures out to the 18th century old West in search of his brother. The series was then followed by two feature films and a spin-off television show titled Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, co-starring Chris Potter.
