Kung Fu Star Wu Jing May Have To Retire Due To Film Injuries
It’s not easy being an action star, seeing as how our favorite frontmen work day in and day out to train their bodies to entertain the masses of movie lovers who enjoy great cinematic screenfighting. Incidentally, some of these actors also pay a high price for their personal up-keep as injuries are often a common thing between perfoming big stunts and dynamic fight choreography on set, and we can only hope that this type of thing won’t subject these talented folks to early retirement.
Wu Jing And Scott Adkins Trade Blows In The First Teaser For SPECIAL FORCE: WOLF WARRIOR!
Some say that patience is a virtue for anything worth waiting for, and for fans of martial arts stars Wu Jing and Scott Adkins, the reward is finally getting closer with the latest thirty second teaser for Wu‘s solo directorial debut, Special Force: Wolf Warrior (formerly known as Warg and Wolf War).
Up until now, we’ve only gotten small glimpses of the production with some viral stills and behind-the-scenes pics and featurette late last year. Other than that, it’s safe to say the film is still in post-production, but the film presents quite a good looking cast, which namely so far includes Yu Nan (The Expendables 2) and Vincent Zhao (The Blacksheep Affair) to name a few.
Hopefully more official info about the film’s cast, characters and plot will surface. In the meantime, with Wu still on the set of his next thriller, SPL 2: A Time For Consequences with Tony Jaa, Special Force: Wolf Warrior has finally delivered its very first, rewarding teaser, and one that will hopefully be the first of many with Wu behind the camera if he so chooses. Check it out!

'Consequences' Surround The New English Title For SPL 2
Thai action star Tony Jaa just got some screentime in Cannes with the unveiling of footage from his new internationally cast action thriller, Skin Trade with Dolph Lundgren and Michael Jai White, which could lead to some exciting distribution news in the days or weeks ahead. In the meantime, principal photography is already underway as of May 1 for Jaa’s new action thriller, Sha Po Lang 2, and the second of two posters have already begun circulating the internet for the film’s presentation in Cannes this month.
View it below:
In light of the new poster unveiling this month, co-producer Mike Selby has confirmed from producers Wilson Yip and Paco Wong who designed the new poster that the film’s accompanying English sales title will be A Time For Consequences. Serving as a thematic sequel/prequel following the spectacular 2005 crime pic, Sha Po Lang, the new film is directed by Cheang Pou-Soi will center on Kit, a tough undercover cop betrayed by his supervisor and forced to break out of prison with the help of reluctant Thai prison guard, Chai (Jaa), to stop and catch a notorious crimeboss and reunite with his dying daughter as her only means of survival.
With further casting news and other developments to be made, the news is slowly developing for what is expected to be another dazzling martial arts crime actioner for Cheang following up from the January release of The Monkey King, now poised for sequel of its own with a new sales poster for presentation.
Set to release next year, SPL 2 / A Time For Consequences stars Jaa along with returning actors Simon Yam and Wu Jing, and newly added cast member Max Zhang with a cameo by actor Louis Koo.
EXCLUSIVE: S.P.L. 2 Gets An Official Preliminary Synopsis
International action star Tony Jaa is currently in Hong Kong putting together his scenes to be featured in director Pou Soi Cheang‘s new film, S.P.L. 2, the forthcoming thematic prequel follow-up to the 2004 film set for a 2015 release. Subscribers to Jaa‘s official Facebook page will regularly see posts of Jaa with the team training and rehearsing scenes, as well as doing make-up and costume tests for the start of production, which ultimately see actors Simon Yam and Wu Jing reprising their respective roles from the first film alongside actor Max Zhang now in the fray as reportedly the film’s villain.
However, things are still early, as we still don’t know the full details on how the characters being played by Yam and Wu will apply, much of the focus is further drawn to hints at what the plot will entail, which sees Jaa starring as a prison guard who helps an undercover cop escape in exchange to help save his dying daughter. For all intents and purposes now, producer Paco Wong has provided a brief, exclusive synopsis for the film to glance at below, courtesy of Mike Selby:
A tough Hong Kong cop named Kit busts a major gangster only to find his cover blown and his main witness gone. The gangster, in retaliation, has him kidnapped and put in a Thai jail with a false criminal identity.
A lowly prison guard Chai with extraordinary fighting skills guards kit and prevents his escape from prison.
The prison guard’s daughter suffers from a rare form of leukemia and Kit is the only donor who can save her.
The prison guard discovers Kit’s real identity and helps him to escape in return for his agreeing to save his daughter.
Together, Kit and Chai must face the gangster and his minions and take them down.
As said before, things are early and we might see more news ahead pertaining to more plot details and cast mentions, including the possibility of whether or not Hong Kong action legend and S.P.L. co-star Sammo Hung will reprise his old role once more. Furthermore, the plot here presents so many possibilities and ways in which this story could be told that could definitely enhance the drama from start to finish.
As far as cast mentions go, it will be interesting to learn who plays the tough undercover cop taking on Zhang for the climatic epic martial arts showdown that awaits with Jaa front and center with action director Dion Lam staging the brutal action.
Soi Cheang is also producing the film with Wilson Yip, who directed the first film that featured Yam, Wu, and Hung with action star Donnie Yen.
Fans can also expect further information in the coming weeks pertaining to the upcoming release of Jaa‘s newly wrapped-up actioner, Skin Trade, which Selby produced along with Craig Baumgarten for director Ekachai Uekrongtham. The film will screen 9 minutes of footage for buyers at Cannes this month, courtesy of international sales agent Hyde Park International.
Tony Jaa Is A Uniformed Hero In A New Set Pic For SPL2
Action hero Tony Jaa took to Facebook on Thursday to unveil the latest costume try-on ahead of rehearsals for the forthcoming production of The Monkey King helmer Pou Soi-Cheang‘s latest film, SPL 2, the long-awaited follow-up to the 2004 crime thriller which starred Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung. Jaa‘s participation in the film was finally confirmed in recent months after a few years of speculation went by.
Check out the photo below with the enclosed caption.
“Costume and Rehearsal Time for SPL II. This is going to be a lot of fun. Great cast and great crew. TJ.”
In accordance with previous reports, it appears that based on the photo above, Jaa will likely star as the Thai prison guard who helps an undercover whose dying daughter’s fate rests on his willingness to help a cop break out of prison. Of course, this is just one aspect of a much more detailed plot that is still pending, with characters to be played by two of the first film’s principle stars, Wu Jing and Simon Yam, along with The Grandmaster co-star, actor Max Zhang who is reportedly playing the main villain.
The film is being produced by Paco Wong and SPL (2005) helmer Wilson Yip, with Champions and Revenge: A Love Story scribe Jill Leung Lai-Yin providing the script and The Storm Riders and Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li fight coordinator Dion Lam will be directing the action.
Production is officially coming underway, so by all means, stick around for more updates!
SPL 2 Offers A Tease At The Synopsis
Pictures are still pouring in from the celebratory dinner shared by director Pou Soi Cheang (a.k.a. Terence Cheung) and those involved in the currently developing, tentatively titled action thriller sequel, SPL 2: The Rise Of Wong Po. Wilson Yip is set to produce from a screenplay by Jill Leung and Huang Ying with action choreography by Dion Lam whose previous work ranges from Hong Kong to Hollywood with titles like Black Mask, The Storm Riders, The Matrix Trilogy, Doom and Spider-Man 2.
While it is also known that action stars Wu Jing and Tony Jaa will be starring in the film, not much is yet known of actor Ken Lo‘s involvement since seeing him in earlier images. So things are still early at the moment, but the folks at Filmbiz.Asia learned a little more about the film’s synopsis submitted to government censorship board SARFT, who greenlit the film for production in late summer.
According to Kevin Ma, the synopsis of the film focuses on “a Thai prison guard who needs to free an undercover cop who can save his daughter’s life.”. While Jaa is the only confirmed Thai actor for the cast listing, there’s no official word yet on if he will be the one playing the guard. Further casting is also in the air, with previous named mentioned such as Francis Ng (Pay Back), Andy On (Special ID) and Sammo Hung who starred in the 2005 predecessor under Yip’s direction. Action star Donnie Yen’s name was also thrown into the topic, although it is only rumored his character would be just a cameo appearance considering how the first film ended.
Lots of names, lots of potential, and lots of time lie in between now and the official shooting date set for January 2014 in Thailand, Hong Kong and China. So stick around and keep your eyes peeled.
Hung and On are also expected to star in the January 8, 2014 release of Once Upon A Time In Shanghai, while Wu‘s latest directorial/starring venture in Wolf War is in post production. Jaa will make his Hollywood debut in Universal Pictures’s The Fast And The Furious 7 set for July 11, 2014.
