The celebrated JHorror/JSplatter director passed away this week at the age of 59.
Holy Mother director Yoshihiro Nishimura has been a busybody in the last few years campaigning for his two most recent thrillers, the second of which is Onimanji, serving as the spin-off of The Great War Of Torakage (2015). Back at the mantle of course is Masanori Mimoto (Hydra, Bad City) to reprise his role this time for an upgraded story that transports our protagonist into a modern-day story that undoubtedly retains the same feudal swordplay action and unapologetic spectacle fans of Nishimura have come to know and love. Ninja samurai Onimanji, who has been sealed in a cursed urn for 631 years and 59 days, is resurrected in the modern era by the assassin-for-hire company, Kika Company. The odd team of Kika, Shigeru, a bumbling assassin, and Onimanjii perform a series of dark jobs and must still compete with rival company Nutmeg. The official trailer is online which you can […]
Genre favorite Yoshihiro Nishimura (Mutant Girls Squad, Tokyo Gore Police, Meatball Machine Kodoku) kept busy with the festival circulation of his most recent thriller, Holy Mother. In the meantime, he’s also been hands-on with the production of his forthcoming return in 2023 with ninja actioner Onimanji, for which we now have our first poster debut below. The film is a spin-off to his 2015 ninja action adventure, The Great War of Torakage, which Nishimura directed and co-wrote, featuring actor Takumi Saito in the story of a retired ninja forced into a quest to find scrolls leading to ancient treasure for his vicious former ninja clan leader, played by Eihi Shina. The film also saw Saito crossing swords and blows with co-star Masanori Mimoto who now takes the stage for his own leading venture in the title role, in addition to serving up the fight scenery as action director. Mimoto has […]
Yoshihiro Nishimura‘s recent endeavors saw him serving in a producer capacity for Noboru Iguchi’s latest reboot, Rise Of The Machine Girls. That one is already off to a festive start for audiences abroad while the noted Meatball Machine Kodoku and Mutant Girl Squad helmer’s newest, Welcome To Japan, brings a trailer of late that pretty much fires on all cylinders from the start. The film is described as a tale centered on female assassins and Japanese food culture, and stars singer and songwriter Ena Fujita whose own music video in 2018 apparently serves as the source of inspiration for this latest endeavor from Nishimura. Audiences at Sitges Film Festival next month will get to catch this latest violent, stellar and worldly odyssey which should present a more readable output of the plot summary by then. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer above, and endulge accordingly.
Bueno’s latest Tokusatsu romp, Strega, had its day at the 27th Yubari International Film Festival throughout last weekend. Actor and filmmaker Bueno was on hand for the festivities along with surprise guests that included Yuki Kuroda (Glaive of Kamen Rider Blade) and Miho Wakabayashi (Momoyo of Gun Caliber), with splatter movie maestro Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police, Kodoku: Meatball Machine) providing the introductory. “Viewers these days always bitch and whine about compliance this, compliance that…it’s bullshit.” said Nishimura, in part. “As creators, we’ve been waiting for someone to bring tokusatsu back to what it was. Back to the time of Kamen Rider Amazon and Showa Ultraman where all the badguys and monsters would get their heads torn off and ripped to shreds by the stars of the show.” He adds: “…And someone FINALLY decided to answer the call for something like that, but the thing is…he ain’t even Japanese.” which […]
