The First Official LOGAN Trailer Hails A Timeless Ballad Of Gallantry
I’m willing to bet there’s already a consensus with Marvel fans on how much many will miss actor Hugh Jackman. There’s no question that his is a portrayal of iconic comic book superhero, Logan Howlett (a.k.a. Wolverine) is one for the history books with a performance as palpable and gripping as one could ask for in an actor, and with a character who notably shares a backstory bigger than most of his fellow X-Men.
It’s a story formulaic with tropes tethered to action and drama, fuelled by bitterness, self-discovery, loneliness, tumult and tragedy. Logan’s is a life ravaged by violence amid the fleeting moments of peace, born a mutant and enhanced even further by a dark science that granted him nearly-impenetrable bones and claws, regenerative healing and heightened senses. These all have benefitted him, thus are the fruits of his adapted gifts, and in parallel, are also the byline of his silent suffering underneath his steeley-eyed carriage and candor.
With all that in mind, one has to wonder what comes next for someone who has lived a near-immortal life – Someone as battle-withered and worn, and ultimately ready to move on. That’s the version of the former soldier and suited X-Men principle we now get in Jackman’s latest portrayal of the titular superhero sequel finale, Logan, courtesy of The Wolverine helmer James Mangold, and such are questions now faced with the emergence of villains like The Reavers and Mister Sinister, along with the introduction of what is expected to be Logan’s clone, Laura, otherwise known as X-23 – born from the auspices of the very Weapon X program that Logan himself violently escaped from so many years ago.
Friend or foe remains to be seen in this version of X-23 through actress Sienna Novikov as confirmed in recent week, though with the film rated R as promised earlier this year, it’s fair to say that Logan will make for one hell of a comic book action movie for today’s generation. Richard E. Grant and Boyd Holbrook also star along with the reprisal of actor Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier from the X-Men franchise, young actress Dafne Keen, actresses Elizabeth Rodriguez, Doris Morgado and actors Stephen Merchant and Eriq La Salle.
