Disney+ is ramping up its R-rated content this Friday with the releases of Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan, according to the trades and press announcements on Thursday. All three films will be made available in the U.S. under the Marvel brand.
And not for nothing either with Jackman joined by actor Patrick Stewart, and especially actress Dafne Keen who is absolutely primed to become something special in her years to come. Together with a strong cast comprised of Eriq La Salle, Boyd Holbrook and Stephen Merchant, our actors leave a legendary film in their wake and hopefully you’ve had a chance to see it in theaters. If not, then you’re just in time for tomorrow’s run and with plenty more to come for its home release courtesy of 20th Century Fox
Additionally, the Blu-Ray will be made exclusively available to Walmart consumers, and with other ample special features to accomodate the Blu-Ray package. This, as reported by THR on Tuesday includes a nine-poster set commemorating actor Hugh Jackman’s 17 year span as the famed Marvel superhero (which piece together an official poster as seen in this video), as well as commentary from Mangold for the film as well as the Blu-Ray’s deleted scenes, and the behind-the-scenes documentary, Making Logan.
“…There’s the story of the tragic hero looking back on his life, marking this the first superhero film to examine the consequences of superheroing. There’s the story of a lifelong friendships coming around to its final curtain, a friendship that has grown, as many do, into a filial bond. And there is the story of Logan and Laura. One of subtle humor and a heartbreak, an arc that will take you by the throat and drag you uncounted miles in the mud. And you’ll be grateful for it, as was I.”
You don’t usually go into a superhero movie expecting an emotionally taxing experience, but all of the promotional marketing for Logan warned us leading up to its release to expect exactly that. In Logan, James Mangold’s follow up to his notable though flawed 2013 outing The Wolverine, we’re shown a senile Professor Charles Xavier devoid of dignity and his usual poise. We’re treated to an alcoholic, time-battered Wolverine. And we’re told a story based on a comic that stands out for its bleakness. But that’s the thing, many comic book fans don’t love them for their stories, they love them for their spectacle.
The film, which also casts Boyd Holbrook, Stephen E. Merchant, Eriq La Salle and Sir Patrick Stewart, opens on March 3 2017. View the poster below, and on the off-chance that you’ve been completely unaware of this film’s existence, watch a Red-band version of the first trailer in the player just beneath.
