THE FURIOUS Gets Sequel Prospect From Bill Kong: ‘It Will Be Better Than The First One’
Come hell or high water, Edko Films exec Bill Kong is promising a sequel to Kenji Tanigaki’s The Furious is going to surpass the first film. This update comes by way of Kong in a statement to Dread Central’s Matt Konopka on Tuesday.
“I would be lying if I told you that’s not on our mind. Every time that we sit down together, we’re always thinking about that. I can promise you one thing, that if there’s going to be a sequel, it will be a better film than the first one. I think people like this movie because it is different, it is out of your expectations, you know? So, how can we, on our next movie…how do we do what you don’t expect? We have no idea how we do that. We are thinking about it a lot, but we have no idea how we can outdo ourselves yet. But there’s still time.”
Kong execs the hit action adventure helmed by Tanigaki, host to an ace line-up of action talents led by actor Xie Miao who plays a mute tradesman who teams up with an undercover journalist to infiltrate a pipeline of human traffickers responsible for their loved ones going missing. Also starring are Joe Taslim, Brian Le, Joey Iwanaga, Yayan Ruhian, Sahajak Boonthanakit and Yang Enyou, with action sequences by Tanigaki and action director Kensuke Sonomura, and a score by Flying Lotus.
Announced back in 2024 and shot just outside of Bangkok, The Furious has been the center of ceremony for action fans since its World Premiere in Toronto at TIFF last year. Select audiences have also been graced to catch the film during private press screenings and fan events, one of the latest being held at Barstool Sports in New York City where Taslim was in attendance for a Q&A this week.
Lionsgate will release The Furious in theaters on June 12. Stay tuned to our website next week for interviews with Iwanaga and Sonomura.
