THE MISERABLE MISFORTUNES OF MY MARVELOUS MASTER Trailer: Fred Nguyen Khan’s New Kung Fu Comedy Short Launches Online This Month
Actor and filmmaker Fred Nguyen Khan is a name that’s frequented The Hit List for a time or several during this site’s lifetime. His latest stop on the indie front will be The Miserable Misfortunes Of My Marvelous Master, a new kung fu comedy short he wrote and directed, starring himself along with fellow “The Sympathizer” series cohort, actor Duy Nguyen.
Dashes of kung fu shapes and deadpan laughs are about for the story of a downtrodden kung fu master whose student proffers him up for the chance to win a prized treasure, crafted from the Chi of seven ancient martial arts grandmasters. Khan is also signaling fans with the release date as it marks the 20th anniversary of the Canadian release of Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle.
“This is my love letter to Stephen Chow and the Kung-Fu comedies that have shaped my existence,” said Khan in a statement last week. “Kung-Fu is life. Life gives you lemons. Lemons can prevent scurvy, therefore, Kung-Fu prevents scurvy. But what it CANNOT prevent, is me making absurd short films with some of my closest friends.”
