It’s always a funny thing when people ask me what my thoughts are about certain selections I add to the Hit List or films I give positive reviews on – funny because for one, reviews should speak for themselves. The same especially goes for the former, really, in that usually if I see a video that I like and I like it enough to put in the energy to write something about it, it’s normally because I liked it. ?
With another year well into its circuitry and film festivals abound, I’ve adequately applied this mindset in my coverage of Troy’s Team, led by multifaceted stunt performer, trainer, actor and filmmaker Troy Sandford.
His independent webseries, The Challenger, was an amply entertaining sampler that showcases what he and his crew are capabable of, and since I began discussing Sandford in 2016, I’m honestly hoping that having worked and trained with the likes of Yuen Woo-Ping, Jackie Chan and Thailand’s own Kecha Khampakdee, he’ll be one of the next in line of new wave filmmakers for the martial arts genre joining the ranks of Eric Jacobus, Fabien Garcia, Dennis Ruel and Joey Min among others.
His 2017 ad for his training classes in screenfighting and self-defense seminars serves as an easily visible example of the tenacity and dedication he’s invoked in his craft since 2013. He’ll be taking the ten minute doc above to festivals this year while you are more than welcome to check it out above for yourself.
