Sarah Elizabeth Mintz’ debut feature film, Good Girl Jane, has released a first-look photo which you can view above. Production wrapped on Thursday and was announced courtesy of Astute Films’ President Fred Bernstein. Patrick Gibson (The OA, Tolkien) and newcomer Rain Spencer are featured in the official still above, headlining the story of a lonely young girl who, after failing to find intimacy in her broken home, falls hard for a charming drug dealer and becomes entangled in his meth ring run by Los Angeles teens. Jason Axinn’s 2-D hand drawn animated horror, To Your Last Death, recently capped off its festival run earlier this month after scoring three more nominations: Best Horror Feature and the prestigious What the F**k is This Movie Even (Film Threat), as well as the Golden Reel for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Non-Theatrical Animation Long Form (MPSE). Among those nominated were Emmy-winning Supervising Sound Designer Michael Archacki, as well as Sound Designer Matthew Schaff (MPSE), and I reviewed the film last year, effectively joining the choir singing its praises, so I think it’s more than worthy reporting on even now. I remember going to see The Expendables over Scott Pilgrim vs. The World during both their theatrical runs happening simultaneously. I never got to check out the film on the big screen before its theatrical releases ended and was even more disappointed that a sequel didn’t follow eight after. The latter hasn’t really dimmed the cult fan fervor much in the years since then, and with the film getting an exclusive Dolby theatrical re-release soon, that fact is unlikely to change. Dolby launched its trailer on Wednesday with director Edgar Wright lending some lipservice of his own via social media, with Dolby announcing an April 30 release. British Chinese director Wayne Che Yip (Hunters, Preacher, Channel 4’s Utopia, AMC’s Into The Badlands, Doctor Who, upcoming The Wheel of Time) is joining the creative team behind Amazon Studios’ The Lord Of The Rings Series. Yip will direct four episodes for the new Amazon Original show which is currently filming in New Zealand, and will also serve as co-executive producer. Spanish filmmaker J.A. IMPASSE: Zhang Yimou’s Chilling New Spy Thriller Gets A Trailer For Its April Release

Director Zhang Yimou has several more films in the pipeline going forward, firstly with period espionage thriller, Impasse now set for an April 30 mainland release. The newest trailer is out as well since the film’s delay last year so we can now expect some movement as the year progresses, theaters slowly reopen with safety conditions and sales pick up at the markets. In 1932, the Japanese military has built a fortress for inhumane medical experiments. However, one man – Wang Ziyang – manages to escape the fortress alive. Chinese intelligence forms a task force to intercept Wang for information about the fortress. But when the puppet government learns of the mission, they use any means necessary to stop the team from finding their man. Emperor Motion Pictures is handling international sales. THE GREAT YOKAI WAR: GUARDIANS Trailer Signals A New Hero, A New Story And Miike’s Familiar Fantastical Allure

The first official trailer is now running for The Great Yokai War: Guardians, following a pair of photo reveals late last year. The film marks the latest from celebrated director Takashi Miike who revived the classic Daiei IP in 2005, and is expected to release this summer. Actor Kokoro Terada stars from a script by Yusuke Watanabe (Twentieth Century Boys), for a story centered on a fifth grader who has inherited hunter’s blood and sets out on a quest to defend the world against the Yokai and the monsters who’ve aligned with them. The film also reunites Miike with actor Nao Omori (First Love) among the cast with Hana Sugisaki (Bleach), Takao Osawa (Kingdom), Sakura Ando (Shoplifters), Kenichi Endo (The Mole Song: Hong Kong Capriccio) and many more.

Richard Moore’s Christopher Lee and David Carradine starrer, Circle Of Iron (1978), is now subject to a revival from former Valiant Entertainment CEO Jason Kothari. The Hong Kong-born entrepreneur has acquired the rights to the IP’s original incarnation, The Silent Flute, from Circle Of Iron producers Paul Maslansky (Police Academy) and Sasha Maslansky, and Kurt Fehtke and Arlene Howard, and will develop a new special limited series with John Fusco (Marco Polo, The Highwaymen) penning the script. In an announcement from actor, director and stunt professional Aaron Toney sent to us on Tuesday, Toney revealed the following: “Production has officially kicked off with Aaron Toney and his entertainment company, Halvon Corporation Entertainment. The crew is set to work for three days in the Mojave desert region on the new pilot for Halvon Corps first show “Project H”. Billed as a pilot for a planned series, Project H stems from Toney’s martial arts fantasy-infused indie short, Throne, born from the like minds of Toney along with Toney, Jason Sweat, and Linda Jewell. Trades are reporting this week that Forest Whitaker (Marvel’s Black Panther), will join actor Tom Hardy in new Netflix thriller, Havoc, from celebrated director Gareth Evans. The film was announced with Hardy last month, a few years after Evans teased its development in an Instagram post. Whitaker’s addition to this film signals something pretty interesting that fans of Evans can take heed to, particularly for those familiar with the actor’s performances in films like Ghost Dog: Way Of The Samurai, and even Repo Men.
